Thunderbolts*: David Harbour Reveals How Team Members Feel About Each Other

As a die-hard Marvel fan who has been following the intricate web of the MCU for years, I can hardly contain my excitement over the upcoming Thunderbolts movie, especially after David Harbour‘s recent insights into the team’s dynamic. The fact that these characters aren’t exactly BFFs is a refreshing change from the usual hero-team camaraderie we’re used to seeing. It’s like watching a dysfunctional family reunion instead of a superhero squad, and I’m here for it!

David Harbour recently discussed the unique camaraderie among the cast of the upcoming Marvel Studios film, “Thunderbolts.” Set to hit theaters worldwide on May 2, 2025, this highly anticipated movie has already garnered positive feedback from internal test screenings. Furthermore, the actor praised Marvel Studios for venturing off the beaten path with the film, hinting that it will deliver a delightful surprise for fans.

David Harbour explains the character dynamic of the Thunderbolts* team

As a die-hard fan, I just learned from an interview that our beloved actor recently shared insights about the unique camaraderie displayed by the Thunderbolts team on-screen. Already, the movie trailer hinted at some intense intra-team action. To add to the excitement, David Harbour himself has confirmed that the team doesn’t exactly see eye-to-eye with one another off-camera as well!

Actor Harbour shared with Inverse, “I’m not sure they all get along. They’re placed together as the most difficult individuals in the most challenging circumstances.” He went on to explain, “That’s what makes the movie enjoyable – it’s not a love triangle; instead, one character despises another, dislikes another, dislikes another, and is irritated by yet another, wanting to eliminate them from the situation.

Contrary to how the Thunderbolts squad operates differently from the Avengers on-screen, David Harbour, who portrays the Red Guardian (Alexei Shostakov), emphasized that behind the scenes, they are quite friendly. In the film, he assumes this role, which was initially introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the movie ‘Black Widow’. The Red Guardian is the father of Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh, and Natasha Romanoff, portrayed by Scarlett Johansson.

Consequently, the trailer aroused anticipation among fans about how Belova and the Red Guardian will reunite following the 2021 film’s events and Black Widow’s demise in Avengers: Endgame. Furthermore, Thunderbolts introduces characters previously seen such as the Winter Soldier, Ghost, Taskmaster, and US Agent, also known as John Walker.
