As a long-time Swiftie, it pains me to see Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour book receiving such negative attention. I remember waiting eagerly for hours in line for her albums back in the day, only to open them and be swept away by the meticulous detail and flawless execution. This book was supposed to be a celebration of her career, a testament to her artistry, and it falls short in so many ways.
Hey there fellow gamers! Ever wondered why Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour book is getting so much flak on TikTok? Despite Swift ruling the charts and gossip columns with her Eras Tour and her relationship with Travis Kelce, her latest merchandise, The Eras Tour Book, has become a hot topic of debate among some fans. Instead of celebrating her career, its release has sparked heated discussions on TikTok, but what’s the big deal?
In this piece, we delve into the reasons behind the backlash that Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour book has received from some of her devoted fans.
Here’s why Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour book is facing backlash
Critics have strongly pointed out numerous grammatical flaws, unclear photos, and design inconsistencies in Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour book. The book, which went on sale at U.S. Target stores on November 29 for $40, initially sparked enthusiasm among fans. However, as more people began to explore it, they expressed disappointment due to several noticeable problems that emerged.
On Sunday, December 1st, TikTok user Emily posted about her experience with a newly purchased book. She explained that she woke up early specifically to buy it, but upon opening, she encountered numerous issues. As she described in her video, the book contained photographs awkwardly placed, some of which were split along the spine, causing readers to damage the binding in order to view them correctly. Emily also pointed out grammatical errors, blurry images, and design flaws within the book.
Supporters of Emily’s criticism flooded in from fellow fans. One user, who is a photographer, exclaimed, “I was utterly shocked by the image quality.” Another, being both a Swiftie and graphic designer, stated, “This would have earned me a low grade and a lecture in school. You are absolutely right.” (paraphrased from Newsweek)
Criticism didn’t cease with just that; some users even rechristened Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour book to the “Missteps Tour Book.” However, amidst widespread criticism, not every fan shared the same viewpoint. Some stood up for the book, calling it “genuine,” and praised Swift’s active role in its creation.
Emily additionally commended certain elements of the book, particularly the behind-the-scenes details. However, she expressed doubt as to why errors were not corrected during the production process. “Given that the book costs $40, wouldn’t one anticipate it to be error-free? Wouldn’t one expect the images to not have been cropped? I wonder if there was a time crunch, but these grammatical mistakes should’ve been rectified promptly,” she pointed out.
