As a long-time admirer of Tim Burton’s whimsical and enchanting universe, I find myself both disappointed and understanding about his decision not to create Edward Scissorhands 2. Over the years, Tim has masterfully crafted stories that are often one-of-a-kind, capturing our hearts with their unique charm and unforgettable characters.
Tim Burton has no plans to make Edward Scissorhands 2.
Edward Scissorhands is a gothic romance movie, released by 20th Century Fox in December 1990, with Tim Burton directing. Johnny Depp portrays the main character, while the ensemble includes Winona Ryder (Kim Boggs), Dianne Wiest (Peg Boggs), Anthony Michael Hall (Jim), Kathy Baker (Joyce Monroe), Vincent Price (The Inventor), and Alan Arkin (Bill Boggs).
Lately, Burton has returned to reminisce about his 1988 film Beetlejuice, starring Michael Keaton, following the release of its sequel, “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” Interestingly, the director of Batman has expressed no desire to create Edward Scissorhands 2.
Furthermore, he mentioned that he has no intentions of returning to the world of “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” a film originally released in 1993 and brought to life by Tim Burton. The movie was actually directed by Henry Selick.
Why doesn’t Tim Burton want to make Edward Scissorhands 2?
At the Marrakech International Film Festival, Burton made it clear during a question-and-answer session that he won’t be directing a sequel to Edward Scissorhands.
He further explained, through Indiewire, “Some films I prefer not to create a follow-up for. I wasn’t keen on making a sequel to that film as it seemed like a standalone piece. Similarly, I didn’t want a sequel for The Nightmare Before Christmas as it felt like a single, unique creation. I believe there are certain works that are best left undisturbed, and that is one of them.
Currently, Tim Burton is busy working on a new adaptation of the 1958 film “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman” for Warner Bros. In the original production, directed by Nathan H. Juran, Allison Hayes, William Hudson, and Yvette Vickers played prominent roles. However, as of now, no details regarding the cast for Burton’s remake have been disclosed. The movie is being written by Gillian Flynn, along with Tommy Harper and Andrew Mittman, with Burton serving as producer.
