As a seasoned gamer of horror flicks spanning over two decades, I must admit my heart skipped a beat when I learned that I Know What You Did Last Summer 3 is officially in production. The franchise has been a staple in my horror movie marathons, and the return of Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt is like welcoming old friends back home.
Even though Sarah Michelle Gellar didn’t return to play Helen Shivers in I Know What You Did Last Summer 3, the longtime franchise actress has posted the first production image, signifying that filming for Sony Pictures’ third sequel has commenced.
As a gamer putting on my storyteller hat, I’d say: Just last week, I spilled the beans on a chat – ol’ Gellar ain’t comin’ back for the third round-up ’cause her character’s six feet under. But, you know what they say about old friends and directors? Well, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is one of those, and she’s hinted that I might still be involved in some mysterious, behind-the-scenes way with the project.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, my dear friend, is in charge of the project, and we often laugh about my informal role. Essentially, I’m like a watchful eye, always reminding her about character consistency. So, I might say, ‘That seems unlikely for these characters,’ or ‘That fits perfectly.’ In essence, although unofficial, I can be considered as the continuity advisor.

Who is involved in I Know What You Did Last Summer 3?
On July 18, 2025, I Know What You Did Last Summer 3 will hit the cinemas. This upcoming movie is being helmed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson who co-wrote the screenplay with Sam Lansky, Jeff Howard, and Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz is producing it. For now, specifics about the storyline are being kept confidential.
22 years after their last appearance in the 1998 movie “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”, Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt have agreed to reprise their characters Rayn Bronson and Julie James. Newcomers to the franchise, including Jonah Hauer-King, Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Lola Tung, Austin Nichols, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, and musician/model Gabbriette, will also be joining the cast.
