Humanoid Origin studio closes
As a long-time Mass Effect fan who grew up playing the original trilogy and eagerly awaiting each new installment, I can’t help but feel a pang of sadness upon hearing the news about Humanoid Origin’s closure. Casey Hudson, a veteran Game Director at BioWare, was set to bring us an indirect sequel that had the potential to surpass even the original games.
Founder Casey Hudson announced today the closure of his development studio, Humanoid Origin.
Although details are scarce, financial difficulties appear to be the cause.
It remains unclear whether investors pulled out or if revenue dropped.
The only statement on LinkedIn reads:
Earlier today, we informed our staff that Humanoid Origin will be shutting down. Despite efforts to shield the studio from broader challenges in the industry, an unexpected shortfall of funding left us unable to sustain operations.
We’re heartbroken that we will not be able to bring our new science-fiction universe to completion. Our main concern at this time however is for our team, and we are committed to supporting them in their transition to new employment.
In our time together, the team achieved incredible progress, and demonstrated that it’s possible to do amazing work while fostering a culture of fun and creativity. We thank them for their talent, courage, and friendship.
Thank you to everyone who supported us throughout our journey.
No more Mass Effect sequel?
Hudson initially served as the Game Director at BioWare, a renowned studio known for creating the Mass Effect series. He was instrumental in the development of the initial trilogy before deciding to establish his own studio.
Humanoid Origin has been strategizing a follow-up to Mass Effect, but with an indirect approach and a goal to outdo the original. In fact, they have declared the development of a top-tier science fiction game set to release in 2022.
Unfortunately, Humanoid Origin, a studio founded by former BioWare veteran Casey Hudson, is closing due to financial difficulties. The team was in the process of developing a brand-new sci-fi intellectual property, which left me eagerly anticipating its release.

Despite just the concept art being unveiled, there was a great deal of anticipation among “Mass Effect” fans about Humanoid Origin’s latest venture, given the underwhelming reception of Andromeda. This excitement stemmed from the expectation that Hudson’s input would yield better results.
As of now, since neither Mass Effect 5 has been revealed yet nor the indirect sequel of Humanoid Origin is available, the gaming community might need to revisit and enjoy the initial games in the series until further updates.
