Why Was AEW Star Ricky Starks Pulled From His Upcoming GCW Appearances?

As a seasoned gamer and wrestling enthusiast with over three decades of following the industry, it’s always fascinating to see the behind-the-scenes drama unfold. The Ricky Starks saga has certainly kept fans on their toes!

Speculations are swirling among fans due to the prolonged absence of Ricky Starks, a notable figure in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), from TV appearances. Prior to this, he had been featured on AEW’s television since March 2024.

In March, the team of Starks and Big Bill contested a tag team title tournament bout against Top Flight within AEW’s programming. Following this match, Starks has not appeared on any AEW broadcasts. Subsequently, Starks participated in two matches outside of AEW. The first of these occurred in May 2024 at the BWT Welcome to Paradise event, where he emerged victorious against QT Marshall.

The second fight took place recently at Glory Pro WrestlePocalypse on November 24, pitting Starks against Kody Lane, the Zero Gravity Champion of AEW. Some fans speculated about Starks’ status due to his appearances outside of AEW, but just a few weeks ago, Starks clarified that he remains contracted with AEW.

On Saturday, November 23rd, I left fans buzzing after showing up at a GCW event! I took the stage and shared my thoughts about feeling sidelined by AEW – I guess you could say they’ve been giving me the cold shoulder. But don’t worry, folks, because there’s a light at the end of the tunnel! I’ve challenged Jimmy Lloyd to a match in GCW. Can’t wait to see what unfolds!

Initially, Starks was planned to make appearances for GCW in December and January. However, the organization has more recently disclosed that he will not be attending multiple events. New information has emerged, shedding light on the reason behind Starks’ removal from his scheduled GCW engagements.

What happened: The real reason Ricky Starks was pulled from GCW

According to Fightful Select reports, Ricky Starks’ contract situation and reasons behind his absence from GCW events have been addressed. It was reported that AEW exercised their option for him last spring, keeping him under contract until 2025. On the same day, Starks spoke about his absence from AEW in an interview with Chris Van Vliet.

Based on information from GCW, AEW withdrew Starks from all future GCW events scheduled after November 26. This move seems to be connected to comments made by Effy about Tony Khan’s father, Shahid Khan. However, within AEW, some had thought it was part of a storyline, but it was later clarified that it wasn’t.

It’s intriguing to speculate about Ricky Starks’ future plans, since he’s been withdrawn from his scheduled GCW shows. Some fans are curious whether he might rejoin AEW.
