As a fan who has followed Jon Watts‘ career since his Marvel days, this news about Wolfs 2 leaves me feeling a tad disappointed, to say the least. The collaboration between Watts, Brad Pitt, and George Clooney was a dream come true for many of us, and the success of Wolfs on Apple TV+ was a testament to their collective talent.
Jon Watts has confirmed that Wolfs 2 is dead.
Under Watts’ direction, the movie “Wolves” features Brad Pitt and George Clooney in lead roles. Initially shown in a brief, selective theater run, it quickly moved to Apple TV+ streaming service a week later. Since then, it has garnered the title of Apple TV+’s most-watched film.
Originally, a follow-up to the Wolf movie was envisioned, but as of now, Watts has expressed to Collider that he doubts there will be a Wolf 2.
In a conversation under pressure, Watts disclosed that the choice not to proceed with Wolf’s 2 was primarily due to him losing confidence in Apple TV+.
What did Jon Watts say about Wolfs 2?
As a fan who’s eagerly following the progress of “Wolfs,” I shared my final cut with Apple earlier this year, and they were thrilled about it, promptly asking me to start scripting a sequel. However, their sudden change from a promised wide theatrical release to a streaming one, without any prior discussion or explanation, took me by surprise. I wasn’t informed until barely a week before they publicly announced it. Frankly, I was taken aback and asked them kindly to withhold mentioning my involvement in the sequel. Alas, my request fell on deaf ears, as they included it in their press release, seemingly to present a favorable outlook on their streaming transition.
Subsequently, I discreetly refunded the funds for the sequel they provided me. I chose to remain silent on the matter as I was proud of the film and wished to avoid unwanted negative attention. Working with Brad, George (and Amy, Austin, Poorna, and Zlatko) was an enjoyable experience, and I’d be open to collaborating again. However, it’s important to note that Apple didn’t terminate the Wolfs sequel; I did so because I had lost faith in them as a creative ally.
Wolfs is now streaming on Apple TV+.
