As a dedicated esports enthusiast with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of anticipation and excitement as I watch the unfolding saga of Counter-Strike 2’s competitive scene. The rumors surrounding the potential transfer of m0NESY to Team Falcons have me on the edge of my seat!
In anticipation of major lineup changes in the Counter-Strike 2 competitive scene as we approach 2025, one of the most captivating rumors circulating is the possibility of Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov joining Team Falcons, mirroring the move made by his G2 Esports teammate Nikola “NiKo” Kovač.
m0NESY might follow NiKo to Falcons!
The news comes amid confirmation that NiKo, widely regarded as one of the greatest riflers in Counter-Strike history, will leave G2 at the end of the year to join the Saudi-backed Falcons. G2’s manager, Petar “peca” Marković, hinted at the imminent departure via Twitter/X, referring to the upcoming Perfect World Shanghai Major as the “Last Dance” for G2’s current roster.
This is in reference to the signing of Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa by G2 during the summer, a move strategically made to accommodate potential future roster adjustments following Nemanja “nexa” Isaković’s benching. The roles that malbsMd naturally fills are quite comparable to those of NiKo.
In simpler terms, Aleksey Biryukov, a well-known figure within the Russian esports scene, has sparked more speculation by suggesting through his Telegram channel that m0NESY could be the next big addition to the Falcons team. If this were to happen, the 18-year-old talent would help fill a crucial void left by Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev who is currently on loan from Natus Vincere but is set to return to his original team in 2025.
Following s1mple’s departure, the Falcons team now has just one confirmed member remaining: Emil “Magisk” Reif. There are also whispers of the potential addition of NiKo to the roster.
Falcons looking for a new core
Speculation about m0NESY’s possible transfer arises as Falcons undertake a significant restructuring. Following their failure to qualify for the Shanghai Major, the team replaced Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer, Pavle “Maden” Bošković, and Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen. Now, they find themselves in dire need of a fresh team to challenge at the top tier. As Valve Rankings will decide Major invites from 2025 onwards, Falcons might aim to recruit several players from G2 to accrue ranking points alongside star talents.
As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but ponder the potential implications if NiKo’s cousin, Nemanja “hUnter-” Kovač, is indeed part of G2’s winning formula alongside NiKo and m0NESY. While it’s all speculation for now, the idea of a combined deal involving these three talented players is certainly intriguing. The Saudi organization has the financial means to make any buyout happen. Yet, there are rumors suggesting that the Falcons might be considering other alternatives too. One such possibility is the acquisition of Dan “apEX” Madesclaire, Vitality’s in-game leader. It would certainly add another layer of excitement to the esports scene!
The upcoming Shanghai Major for CS:2 (starting this Saturday) is poised to become a landmark occasion. This tournament could potentially be NiKo’s last with the G2 team, marking an end to a notable chapter in Counter-Strike’s history. Known as the player who has been called the greatest never to win a Major, NiKo is aiming to bid farewell to G2 on a triumphant note.
Regarding m0NESY, a possible transfer to Falcons could mark an exciting new phase for both the budding AWPer and the Falcons organization. With significant roster shifts anticipated post-Major, spectators won’t have to wait long to witness how these decisions play out. At present, all attention is on Shanghai and the swansong displays of NiKo and G2’s illustrious team.
What do you think? Will m0NESY and NiKo continue to play together in 2025? What moves should G2 do, if they lose their core?
