As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for The Witcher series, I must admit that the news of Polaris (or The Witcher 4) entering its production stage has sent ripples of excitement through my gaming circle. Having played every installment since the first game, I’ve grown attached to Geralt and the fantastical world of The Continent.
CD Projekt occasionally shares financial and progress reports, keeping fans informed about the status of their games in development and the revenue generated by different titles. The latest update provided us with some intriguing details about the development of ‘Polaris’!
CD Projekt reveals that Polaris is entering the production stage
CD Projekt’s upcoming title, often known as Polaris or potentially The Witcher 4, will be their next major production following the Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077.
In their Q3 report, it was disclosed that Polaris has completed its pre-production stage and has moved on to the primary development phase, which is the production phase.
Piotr Nielubowicz, CD Projekt’s CFO, shared that Polaris started large-scale manufacturing a few weeks ago, as he presented the company’s Q3 results,” (paraphrased version)
Among all our ongoing initiatives, this particular project has made the greatest strides thus far, and we’re now entering the most rigorous stage of construction. I’d like to extend my gratitude to the team for their dedication, and I’m hopeful that we’ll continue to make significant progress.
The count of Polaris’s development team has slightly decreased from 410 to 400, but CEO Michał Nowakowski has reassured us that this is a routine adjustment. He explains that they have merely reallocated developers “to accommodate the present requirements of the production phase.
Up next for us is the primary and most robust growth period, commonly known as the production phase. We’ll now expand the solutions we’ve already developed and confirmed to the full scope of the game.” Nowakowski made this remark during the Q3 2024 earnings conference, which was live-streamed yesterday.
Nowakowski continued by stating that since they’ve established the fundamentals of the game, like the primary narrative, essential gameplay mechanics, and so on, and have a clear understanding of their final objective, it’s now time for them to start adding details and completing the missing pieces.
In this phase of the project, which is expected to be quite extensive, they tactfully avoided providing answers about a potential release date or similar details. It’s possible that they will disclose the release date once they have completed the final polishing stages of production.
