As a seasoned Destiny 2 player with countless hours under my belt, I must say, Bungie’s latest update has been quite the rollercoaster ride! The Sentinel Shield buff is an unexpected gift that’s too good to pass up. I mean, who wouldn’t want to feel like a superhero for a couple of weeks?
With the launch of update 8.1.5, Bungie initiated Revenant Act II for Destiny 2. The patch notes were comprehensive, and now that the update is out, Bungie has promised improvements in the coming weeks. This means that Destiny 2 players have a fortnight left to enjoy an overpowered buff before it’s toned down.
Update 8.1.5 has sparked quite a bit of development, and it’s not all positive. Some players were disheartened by what they perceived as a “discouraging” adjustment to the Hunter class, leading many to speculate that someone at Bungie holds a grudge against this particular class. However, Bungie has recently reassured us that they are working on a fix to correct unforeseen advantages arising from the boost in Super Energy gains, particularly for the Celestial Nighthawk variant of the Golden Gun. This correction is scheduled for early December.
In the near future, a new adjustment (nerf) for Destiny 2 is scheduled to be rolled out by Bungie, following quickly on the heels of the fix arriving early next month.
Bungie announces upcoming nerf for Destiny 2
According to the 8.1.5 update patch notes for Destiny 2, Bungie increased the power of the Sentinel Shield. Many gamers have since commented on how overpowered it seems now.
Initially, players thought it was a glitch, but Bungie has clarified that the significant boost in damage from the Sentinel Shield’s Super melee attack wasn’t part of the original plan. On their Destiny 2 Team account on X, Bungie acknowledged the problem and informed fans they are looking into an issue where this ability is dealing more damage than intended.
Bungie is working on reducing the “unexpected high damage” currently in play, but reassuringly, it will remain stronger than its pre-8.1.5 state. The positive aspect is that this adjustment won’t be implemented until mid-December, so players have a couple of weeks left to enjoy the overpowered buff before it gets toned down.
In responding to the announcement of a fix, one player on Reddit pointed out that all Roaming Supers recently received a “30-35% damage increase” while “For some reason, Sentinel Shield got a 172% increase to damage that also applies to bosses”.
Though numerous individuals on X have been requesting Bungie to maintain the current Sentinel Shield boost, maintaining the status quo indefinitely could be unreasonable and absurd. The exploit is beneficial for a limited duration only, so ensure you make the most of it during this time.
