As a fan who has always been captivated by gritty, thought-provoking narratives that delve deep into the human condition, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming global release of Ron Leshem’s “Bad Boy” on Netflix! Having had the privilege of witnessing his masterpiece “Euphoria,” I can confidently say that this new series promises to be another gripping exploration of complex characters and their struggles.
Netflix has acquired the global rights for Ron Leshem, creator of the original Euphoria, and Hagar Ben-Asher’s Israeli prison series titled Bad Boy. Initially announced in March 2023 as a joint production between Peter Chernin’s North Road Company and Sipur, an international entertainment studio based in Israel, the series is now set for a global release. The movie was previously screened at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.
Ron Leshem’s Bad Boy to release worldwide on Netflix in 2025
2025 is going to be a thrilling year for me as a gamer, because Ron Leshem and Hagar Ben-Asher’s Bad Boy will make its international debut on Netflix! I’ve been waiting for this moment since the show first aired in Israel on HOT. As we all know, Netflix is active in over 190 countries worldwide, so it’s exciting to think that I’ll be able to share this amazing series with my fellow gamers around the globe. Can’t wait!
Initially, Leshem stated that Bad Boy might resemble “Euphoria’s successor.” This upcoming series, inspired by real events, centers around Dean. After being imprisoned in a harsh juvenile detention center, he crosses paths with the mysterious Zoro. Fast forward 20 years and Dean is now a renowned comedian, struggling to hide his tumultuous past. The show features Daniel Chen, Guy Manster, and Havtamo Farda among its cast.
As I sat down with Deadline ahead of TIFF’s premiere, I found myself reminiscing about how my time as an investigative journalist delving into a story within a juvenile prison sparked the plot for Bad Boy. It was eye-opening to see 12-year-olds confined in the same facilities as 18-year-old adults, and it was there that the concept for Bad Boy first emerged. I can still vividly recall entering this place where one moment the children would be harmonizing Lion King tunes and yearning for their mothers, only to transform into seemingly vicious creatures intent on harming each other the next.
Originally, the characters from Euphoria were intended to have been born in prison, but this idea didn’t make it through. Now, with Bad Boy, Leshem has successfully incorporated a juvenile detention center as a significant backdrop.
