As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen many collaborations between video games and real-world celebrities. Some have been fantastic additions to the gaming experience, while others… not so much. The recent removal of Conor McGregor content from Hitman: World of Assassination is a prime example of the latter.
IO Interactive, creators of the Hitman: World of Assassination series, have revealed that they will be eliminating Conor McGregor-related content from their stealth game. This decision comes following the professional fighter being held accountable in a civil sexual assault case.
IO Interactive recently posted on social media about a change in their partnership: “Due to the recent court verdict concerning Conor McGregor, IO Interactive has chosen to end its association with the athlete, effective straight away,” the post stated. All content related to McGregor will be taken down from digital shops today.
Previously, Conor McGregor made an appearance in the Hitman game series, specifically in the mission titled “The Disruptor Elusive Target”. Additionally, some cosmetic items related to him were previously available for purchase at a cost of $5 in a DLC pack. However, it has been announced that these cosmetic items will no longer be available for purchase.
In 2018, a woman who made allegations against Conor McGregor for rape reached a favorable outcome in her civil case and was given €248,000 in compensation. This Conor McGregor-related content recently went live as part of the collaboration between Hitman: World of Assassination and a real-world celebrity, serving as an illustration of this ongoing partnership.
