As a hardcore 80’s kid who grew up with Saturday morning cartoons, I can’t help but feel a surge of nostalgia hearing about the upcoming live-action Voltron movie. Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora, and John Kim joining the cast is like adding fuel to the fire! I remember spending countless hours watching the original series, mesmerized by the dynamic teamwork and the colossal robot that was Voltron.
Amazon MGM Studios has made an official declaration that Sterling K. Brown (“This Is Us,” “American Fiction”), Rita Ora (“Descendants: The Rise of Red”), and John Kim (“Cruel Intentions”) will join the cast for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of Voltron. These talented individuals have been selected to participate in this exciting production.
More specifics concerning their personalities are being kept secret for now. They will be joining previously announced actors Henry Cavill (known for Man of Steel and The Witcher) and newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye. As of now, there is no scheduled start date for production or theatrical release.
Who is involved in the live-action Voltron movie?
The upcoming Voltron movie featuring real-life actors will be helmed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, who has penned the script alongside Ellen Shanman. Additionally, Thurber takes on the role of producer, working alongside Todd Lieberman, Bob Koplar, and David Hoberman. This project is a joint effort between Hidden Pictures and Hobie Films.
Thurber emphasized in a video message at VoltCon that it’s crucial to preserve the essence and authenticity of Voltron in our upcoming film. To achieve this, we’ll be presenting a fresh crew of pilots. We’ve adapted Voltron for live-action settings, but we plan to remain faithful to…the timeless aspects that resonate with you and me. I can’t wait to unveil it to you all!
The Voltron series originates from Toei Animation’s mecha anime show called Beast King GoLion, broadcast between 1981 and 1982 for 52 episodes. This anime focuses on five space explorers who command the Robot Lions, which combine to form the legendary super robot of the title. It gained prominence when it was transformed into an English animated series by World Events Productions and ABC, airing from 1984-1985. Due to its popularity, it led to the creation of three more TV spin-offs, two video games, and a collection of toys.
