Shanola Hampton shares what the big Margaret reveal means for Found

As a devoted fan who’s been following Found since its inception, I can say that this season has been nothing short of exhilarating! The latest episode left me reeling, especially with the shocking twist involving Margaret and her son Jamie. It’s heart-wrenching to see a character like Margaret, who’s been a pillar of strength for the team, break down like that.

Just stumbled upon an exciting midseason finale, and Shanola Hampton is shedding light on the aftermath for Gabi and her squad!

Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for Found Season 2, Episode 8

In Season 2 of Found, the M&A team has been rocked by the revelation that Gabi (Shanola Hampton), who had been holding Sir (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) hostage, used him as a source to gather information on criminals. Officer Ally Mark (Brett Dalton) considered arresting Gabi but held back due to insufficient evidence, while Lacey (Gabrielle Walsh) was more distraught than anyone else by this turn of events.

The team has been significantly affected by Sir’s prolonged absence, causing stress among its members. Particularly hard-hit was Zeke (Arlen Escarpeta), who felt upset when Mark confiscated his computers, his sole means of connection to the outside world. A pivotal moment occurred when Sir confronted Zeke at his residence. In a fit of anger, Zeke unknowingly stepped outside, which Sir used as evidence to claim he could “mend” the team.

13 years ago, my mom, Margaret (Kelli Williams), used to frequent the bus station where my brother, Jamie, disappeared. One night, she vanished too, and I enlisted Dhan (Karan Oberoi) to track her down. He found her at a lake, where she admitted that she had been going there because she felt responsible for Jamie’s disappearance. You see, he used to pester her at the station, and when she sent him away for a while, he was gone when she returned. The weight of the guilt almost caused her to drown herself, but Dhan managed to prevent it.

Speaking to TVLine, Shanola Hampton shared how the cast knew about this twist and what it means.

NK (showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll) does kind of tell us what’s going on, so yes — but to see it is a little bit shocking. As a fan of the show, which I am also, I was like, “Oh, Margaret, ouch.” You feel badly when you see it happen. You feel bad for Jamie and then also for Margaret to have to carry it. It’s heartbreaking, and shocking.

Hampton subtly suggested that focusing on Jamie’s recovery could potentially help Margaret heal, which might become a significant plot point. Although tracking this path might prove challenging, it could lead to a compelling narrative, as addressing Margaret’s healing could be a key step towards mending the entire team.

What does Sir want with the team in Found?

Following Zeke’s infiltration of police databases to retrieve a letter from Sir, the episode concluded with Gabi making her way to her own school, carrying some knuckle dusters. Hampton seems to suggest this will culminate in a major confrontation, leading to an unforeseen disclosure.

He now has Gabi back in his reach, and the first agenda is just to be in her presence again. It is an obsession to have her with him. But he’s set up and ready for her, and he’s going to reveal something that will be questionable at first, but also will cause another trip down the rabbit hole for another character.

The team continues to think that Sir may be collaborating with someone, possibly his seemingly disowned half-brother Christian (Michael Cassidy). This could factor into the plot or else be another instance of Sir’s devious manipulations. The series hinges on the fact that Sir genuinely thinks he’s aiding Gabi and her team, and this misconception makes him even more perilous.

Hampton subtly suggested that there’s been an increase in stress within the team, and only time can provide the genuine cure for their issues.

What we try to do on our show — and I think that we do a pretty decent job of doing it — is human reflection and what actual humans go through in the healing process. When something is damaged, a friendship or relationship, when you get back — if you ever get back — it’s really the time that did it. Or a circumstance or a case will bring them together, or something that has happened. Will it ever be the same? No. But the luxury of time is what the healing.

I’m going to have a brief hiatus, returning in 2025 with the much-anticipated Gabi/Sir showdown and additional insights into the aftermath of the team’s decisions. Hampton suggests that time may help mend some hurts, but the road to recovery will be challenging.

Found Season 2 returns Thursday, Jan. 16 at 10/9c on NBC.
