Dune 2: Josh Brolin Says He’ll ‘Quit Acting’ If Denis Villeneuve Isn’t Nominated for an Oscar

As a seasoned gamer of the silver screen, I’ve witnessed countless performances and directing masterpieces over the years. The recent declaration by Josh Brolin, the man behind Thanos and many other memorable characters, to quit acting if Denis Villeneuve is not recognized at the 2025 Oscars for his work on Dune 2, has left me both intrigued and a tad skeptical.

A well-known actor in the movie industry, Josh Brolin, recently expressed a surprising intention: stepping away from acting if the Oscars 2025 snub director Denis Villeneuve for his work on “Dune 2”. This year, Brolin revisited the Dune series, playing his role once more in the sequel. The film has been highly acclaimed by both audiences and critics, with many praising Villeneuve’s vision. Mirroring this praise, Brolin has declared that he will retire from acting if the director is not acknowledged at the 2025 Oscars.

Josh Brolin backs Denis Villeneuve to be nominated for Oscars 2025

In his newly published memoir, titled “From Under the Truck”, Chris Evans, who played a role in The Avengers: Endgame, expressed gratitude towards director Denis Villeneuve.

In the written record, Josh Brolin praised Denis Villeneuve for his exceptional skills in movie-making, referring to him as one of the current era’s “great filmmakers.” He expressed confidence about Villeneuve’s Oscar prospects for 2025, saying, “If he doesn’t receive a nomination this year, I’ll retire from acting.

Later on, Brolin praised Dune 2 and its director, stating, “This film surpassed the first one for me. Watching it left me feeling like my mind had been shattered open. It’s a work of genius, and Denis is truly one of our great cinematic masters.” As a playful jab at the Oscars, he ended his comments by suggesting, “If the Academy Awards hold any significance at all, they should acknowledge him.” This was according to Variety.

Although the 2021 release of Dune garnered positive reviews from critics, its 2024 sequel exceeded the original film’s ratings. Notably, Dune 2 earned a critic score of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, surpassing the initial movie’s rating of 83%. Josh Brolin returned to his role as Gurney Halleck, the loyal mentor of Timothée Chalamet’s character, Paul Atreides, in Dune 2.

In simple terms, as I’m writing this, Dune 3, the final installment in Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy, is currently being worked on. However, there isn’t a confirmed release date yet. But, if hints are to be believed, we might see it hit the big screen around 2026.
