What does Reid want from Voight on Chicago PD?

As a long-time fan of Chicago PD, I must say this mid-season finale left me reeling! The tension between Voight and Reid is palpable, and I can’t help but feel that trouble is brewing for our favorite Intelligence Unit.

The television series, “Chicago PD,” concluded its mid-season run, leaving viewers on edge as Voight is concerned about Reid’s intentions towards the Intelligence Unit, which seem to hide a mysterious and potentially dangerous objective.

The episode started right where the previous one left off as Torres and Burgess were racing to find Cook, who had just been seen with criminal contact turned drug dealer Gloria. Gloria quickly stumbled onto Cook being a cop and revealed her long-time on-off relationship with Torres. 

Fortunately, Cook had been dismissed when Gloria pulled away. Yet, it turned out that she, along with the rest of the team, were displeased upon learning that Torres had been associating with one of his confidential criminal contacts all this while. Ruzek was particularly upset due to Burgess’s knowledge and protection of Torres. Even Voight, who was furious about the situation, decided to keep Torres for now because they still required Gloria to get nearer to her rival drug dealers.

Torres was greatly affected by these events, spending more time praying for Gloria’s safety rather than his own or his career. He tried talking to Gloria about how being a drug dealer didn’t truly represent her, but she retorted sharply that this was indeed who she was, and Torres was merely deluding himself if he thought otherwise.

The situation escalated into a disastrous deal, with Gloria being the one who suffered the consequences, ultimately losing her life in Torres’ arms, while he mournfully acknowledged his inability to rescue her.

What’s the deal with Voight and Reid in Chicago PD?

During the entire episode, Deputy Chief Reid persistently intervened to seek updates. Meanwhile, Voight skillfully evaded him by providing misleading information, all aimed at keeping Torres’ involvement hidden from Reid. However, this tactic worked only until Voight unexpectedly found Reid patiently waiting in his office.

Following their discussion on the case, Reid disclosed that he was fully aware of Torres and Gloria, as well as the Unit’s covert actions and misuse of police funds. This left Hank questioning why Internal Affairs hadn’t intervened to arrest everyone and dismantle the Unit. Reid explained that he wanted to continue investigating to learn more about certain criminal organizations. He also expressed his hope for a friendship with Voight.

Currently, Voight finds himself in a difficult situation. He’s aware that Reid might exploit the Unit for questionable activities and potentially bend some rules. Yet, if Reid makes just one phone call, their entire law enforcement careers could be at stake, with Torres possibly facing additional criminal charges.

It’s been hinted that there’s something suspicious about Reid’s overly kind demeanor, and this scene brings his sinister nature to light. It’s unclear what exactly he wants from the team, but it might involve undercover or unauthorized investigations. It’s possible that he genuinely wants to apprehend criminals, but his methods could be excessively extreme. However, using blackmail on fellow officers doesn’t appear to be an ethical choice.

In the upcoming season of Chicago PD, Voight will need to tread cautiously as he navigates his complex relationship with Reid. This power struggle between them promises an intense confrontation, leaving the police force in a difficult position amidst the ominous twist that awaits the series.
