As a seasoned Valorant player with countless hours spent in the virtual battlefield, I must say that the latest updates to my beloved game are quite intriguing. It seems the developers have been listening to the community and are making strides towards balancing out the agents and improving overall gameplay.
The eagerly awaited Update 9.10 arrives, introducing thrilling alterations to the gaming landscape of VALORANT, providing a refreshing breeze to the overall experience!
By modifying weapons, enhancing agent skills, and introducing fresh gear, Riot Games is stirring up the game’s strategy (meta) as we approach the year-end.
Here is an overview of the most important changes!

New Armor: The Regen Shield
As a gamer, I’m always on the lookout for better gear to boost my performance. Until now, I’ve been using either the budget armor with just 25 units of protection or the fully-equipped shield with 50 units. But guess what? There’s a brand new armor in town that upgrades my range once more!
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that recently, Riot Games has introduced the Regen Armor. Normally, I find myself saving up the 1000 credits each round to grab a shield, preparing me for the upcoming battles ahead.
Instead, as a means of cutting costs, more and more professional players are opting to purchase the ‘compact’ shield that costs 400 credits.

Riot aims to introduce a diverse range of gear, but it’s clear from the title that this isn’t your typical defensive item.
This rain shield, priced at 650 credits, boasts unique features. It can absorb any damage received without causing a drop in the player’s life points.
You might picture that the rain shield, similar to living organisms, possesses a self-healing trait. When it sustains harm, it regenerates or recovers from a reserve following a brief pause.
Agent Updates: Cypher Nerfs, Phoenix Buffs
In this final update of the year, the emphasis is on refining the roles of support characters. Specifically, this update introduces modifications to the Sentinel and Smoker classes, along with tweaks for the widely-used Duelist character, Phoenix.
Let’s begin by discussing the deterioration in Cypher’s skills. Up until this point, Cypher has been known for his defensive prowess and ability to obstruct particular routes.
Cypher (Sentinel)

- Trap Wire: The counter attack time has been increased by 0.5 seconds to give opponents more of a chance to destroy them.
- Focus on Cypher’s information gathering instead of direct kills.
- Neural Theft (ULT): Cost increased from 6 orb points to 7 orb points.
Sage (Sentinel)
Sage’s role as an agent in the game has significantly diminished following the debut of Valorant. In fact, some players are now referring to her as a Counter-Strike Agent due to her limited useful abilities and the opportunity for players to focus solely on their aiming skills.
The adjustments aim to make it more suitable for the gaming experience, enhancing its ability to thwart or delay assaults more efficiently.
- The slowing orb should now be more effective against the sprint abilities of duellists. The 50% reduction in sprint speed is an important debuff against duellists with sprint abilities.
- Healing Orb: You heal yourself, 50 LP instead of 30 LP.
- Resurrection (ULT): Now costs only 7 orb points.
Phoenix (Duelist)
Following the release of Patch 8.11, Phoenix is set to become even stronger. Now, he can engage in ongoing fights and swiftly re-enter them at a faster rate.

- The flaming wall will now continue to heal even if you touch it very briefly. It can also be placed through walls.
- Curve Ball (Flash): At the start of the round, you receive a free charge for the signature ability. If you kill two opponents, you will receive an additional charge.
- Hot Hands: Costs 200 credits and is no longer a signature skill.
Jett, Deadlock and Omen
- Jett: Floating is no longer possible during suppression.
- Deadlock: The Barrier’s health status has been updated for better recognition, and her ULT is guaranteed to kill even if the timer has expired.
- Omen: Improved visual clarity in his Smoke abilities, particularly the ability to distinguish between enemy and allied Smoke.

Weapon changes
As a passionate gamer, I’ve noticed that many firearms, particularly pistols and rifles, aren’t as precise when in motion. The goal behind this adjustment seems to be to motivate us to take our shots from a stationary stance, thereby increasing the importance of tactical positioning and pinpoint accuracy.
- Phantom: The Phantom now deals more damage at longer range. Damage reduction at medium and long range has been reduced, making the assault rifle more useful at long range.
- Pistols: The Classic and Ghost pistols have been modified so that they are less effective over medium distances, while the Frenzy is significantly more efficient in close combat. This is intended to promote the strategic use of these weapons.
- Machine guns: Both the Ares and the Odin have been improved in their performance in order to utilise them more effectively during game rounds. These weapons now offer more tactical flexibility and unleash their full power in the right context.
The community’s reaction to these weapon changes has been mixed:

Multiple improvements have been incorporated into the gaming systems to improve game clarity and balance. Now, the data about ability usage will be shown exclusively at the conclusion of each round, providing a more streamlined user experience while playing the game.
As a gamer myself, I can tell you that during intense moments, we’ll spot visual indicators as smoke grenades fade away, offering more transparent responses in high-stress scenarios.
The speed of movement skills such as Jett’s Tailwind has been reduced by half, making it more beneficial for defensive teleports and adding strategic depth to gameplay. Additionally, brighter lighting has been added to the Sunset map to improve visibility, especially in dimly lit sections.
