As a dedicated fan of Chicago Fire, I must admit that it’s becoming a bit of a pattern for Severide to be absent during crucial episodes. While I understand the need for cost-cutting and scheduling issues, it’s always a bummer not seeing him around.
Given the events of the last episode, it’s not entirely unexpected that Severide wasn’t present for the Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale. Despite our desire to see him in every episode, this series, like many others, sometimes requires cost-cutting measures by not having all actors appear in every episode.
In the final episode before a break, Severide was absent throughout. However, there’s no need to worry as this seems to be just a temporary absence, lasting only for one episode. The series made it clear where his character is within the universe of Chicago-based shows.
Severide is on a work trip in the Chicago Fire season 13 fall finale
It wasn’t much time before they clarified how Severide went missing in that particular episode. Tony and Capp jotted down that Cruz would be filling in as Acting Lieutenant for the shift, implying that Severide was absent. The term “Acting” signifies that Cruz is merely standing in for the role on a temporary basis.
All that was said was that Severide was on a work trip in Michigan. Cruz called it some “fire inspection boondoggle,” which was kind of cute.
It’s evident that Severide is increasingly drawn towards the realm of arson investigation. Despite his efforts to resist this aspect of firefighting, he possesses an innate talent and fervor for it. He seems almost compelled by it, making it logical for him to handle more cases outside the firehouse. If the show were to have Cruz attempt the lieutenant exam and remain with Firehouse 51, it would be fitting for Severide to transition into arson work while still being a regular character in the series.
Severide won’t be gone for long in Chicago Fire
Previously, Severide stayed on his business trip for a considerably longer duration than initially intended. This coincided with when Taylor Kinney temporarily stepped away from the series without prior notice. Later in the storyline, Kidd expressed her displeasure about Severide’s absence without notification during his time away.
It appears that he’s taken something away from this experience. During his absence, he kept in contact with Kidd, and it was evident that he wasn’t enjoying his business trip. Kidd informed Violet of his early return, which likely means Severide will be back for the winter premiere of Chicago Fire, season 13.
The television series “Chicago Fire” is taking a hiatus until January 8, 2020, airing at 9/8 central time on NBC. Don’t forget to stream the episodes from this season on Peacock in the meantime!
