Daniel Craig & Luca Guadagnino Looking to Reunite for DC Sgt. Rock Movie

As a long-time fan of both Daniel Craig’s gripping performances and Luca Guadagnino‘s visually stunning direction, I am beyond thrilled at the prospect of these two talented artists joining forces again, this time for DC’s Sgt. Rock movie!

Daniel Craig and Challengers’ Luca Guadagnino are looking to reunite for DC’s Sgt. Rock movie.

By September 2024, news emerged about Guadagnino’s possible involvement in directing a Sgt. Rock film for DC Studios. Not long ago, he also directed Challengers and is now working on Queer, an upcoming romance movie featuring Craig, which is set to hit select U.S. theaters on November 27, 2024, distributed by A24.

Now, per Deadline, Craig and Guadagnino may be reteaming for the DC flick.

As of now, there’s no confirmed agreement between DC Studios, Craig, and Guadagnino regarding a project; but if all goes well, it seems possible that Sgt. Rock could be the upcoming film directed by Guadagnino, which means his American Psycho remake would likely follow after this potential project.

What else do we know about the Sgt. Rock movie?

The script for the Sgt. Rock movie is written by Justin Kuritzkes, who also wrote Challengers and Queer. No other casting or plot information is available at this time.

Originating from the creative minds of Robert Kanigher and Joe Kubert, Sgt. Rock debuted in Our Army at War #83, published by DC Comics back in 1959. This character is a skilled World War II soldier recognized for his exceptional combat abilities, remarkable precision, and unflappable temperament. Recently, Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell penned a limited series titled Sgt. Rock Vs. the Army of the Dead for DC Comics, which was released in September 2022.

The article by Deadline mentions that this project will mark a significant leap into the cosmos compared to Gunn’s upcoming Superman, which initiates DC’s Gods and Monsters Phase One, including the Supergirl movie and the animated series Creature Commandos set to premiere on Max on December 5.

Apart from portraying the character Queer, Craig is set to return as Detective Benoit Blanc in the upcoming movie titled “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” or colloquially known as “Knives Out 3.” This film, helmed by director Rian Johnson, will be made available for streaming on Netflix in 2025.
