Get ready for an extended break for Doctor Odyssey

As a seasoned gamer of TV shows, I can confidently say that the winter break is a bittersweet moment for us fans. On one hand, it means we have to wait a few extra months before our favorite TGIT lineup returns, but on the other, it’s a testament to the quality and depth of these shows that they require such a lengthy production period.

Once more, we’re approaching the season where television shows go on a winter hiatus. Starting tomorrow, November 21, Thursday, “Doctor Odyssey” will be one of the initial series wrapping up its autumn episodes.

Normally, TV shows come back on air in January. However, that’s not the case with “Doctor Odyssey” and the entire TGIT lineup, as they’re taking a longer break than usual. But don’t worry, this extended hiatus might actually be beneficial for the series.

When will Doctor Odyssey return in 2025?

The freshman medical series is coming back on Thursday, March 6th, 2025, at its usual time of 9/8c. It’ll be right in the middle of the returns of “911” and “Grey’s Anatomy”, so TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) will carry on as usual from March!

The three shows are currently on an extended hiatus, which is common for them. Fans of 911 have grown accustomed to this, as since its arrival on the fall schedule, it has typically chosen a lengthier winter break compared to other programs. This practice enables the series to complete filming the remaining episodes and ensures uninterrupted airing. Similarly, Grey’s Anatomy fans have encountered similar breaks in recent years.

It’s not too unexpected that Doctor Odyssey is receiving this opportunity as well. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a positive development.

Why a long break for TGIT?

During this lengthy winter hiatus, it’s beneficial to remember the positive aspects as we anticipate the resumption of shows. With a limited number of episodes produced during the season, there’s a nine-month broadcast schedule to fill. Consequently, there are gaps in the schedule throughout the year.

Choosing an extended hiatus for three winter shows by ABC results in fewer gaps in the broadcasting calendar when they resume. This continuous airing provides a seamless viewing experience that fans prefer. We’re all grateful for the consistent scheduling.

“Not having The Rookie and Will Trent on fall schedules is a significant attraction, as they both start in January instead. This continuous scheduling helps maintain consistency.

For “Doctor Odyssey” and the remainder of the TGIT schedule, we’re anticipating a May conclusion. More details will be revealed as we get closer to that time.

Doctor Odyssey is available on Hulu to catch up on.
