As a devoted fan of heartwarming Christmas rom-coms, I can confidently say that “The Merry Gentlemen” is a delightful addition to Netflix’s holiday lineup in November 2024. With its charming small-town setting and a star-studded cast featuring Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray, this film ticks all the right boxes for me.
In November 2024, the holiday magic train on Netflix shows no signs of slowing, with four weeks of brand-new original Christmas romantic comedies still to come! Building upon the successes of “Meet Me Next Christmas” and “Hot Frosty”, the next installment is the tantalizingly spicy yet equally heartwarming and endearing “The Merry Gentlemen”. This film stars beloved alums from The CW, Britt Robertson and Chad Michael Murray.
As a long-time performer in the enchanting Jingle Belles troupe on Broadway, I’ve cherished every sparkling sequin and rhythmic step. But one chilly winter, my beloved role was unexpectedly taken away, leaving me heartbroken and without purpose. With nowhere else to turn, I found myself heading back home to the quaint town of Sycamore Creek for the holiday season.
As I step back into the familiar, joyous small-town atmosphere, I realize my beloved local venue, The Rhythm Room, is on the brink of closing. With my theater skills and a bold notion that sex appeal could be our secret weapon, I devise a dance revue featuring hunky men to draw in crowds and help clear our family’s mounting debts. But will this journey lead me to an enduring love?
Warning: Spoilers from the end of the movie ahead!
Do Ashley and Luke end up together in The Merry Gentlemen?
Rest assured… by the end of The Merry Gentlemen, Ashley and Luke wind up as a couple. Their first encounter, outside The Rhythm Room where Luke was hanging decorations, leaves them both entangled in a garland. As they work together on the show, they find themselves drawn to each other. To make things even more intriguing, one of their early meetings includes Luke showing up unexpectedly shirtless while fixing the plumbing.
Ashley and Luke grow more intimate and learn more about each other. He confesses that he was once married to a woman called Amy, whom he relocated to Sycamore Creek for. Unfortunately, they separated, but he continued residing in the town and developed a sense of belonging. Consequently, it saddens him when Ashley contemplates returning to her urban job, as she seems prepared to depart.
When her supervisor from Jingle Belles unexpectedly calls to propose a three-year contract along with a 25% raise, inviting her to rejoin the group immediately for the Christmas Day performance, she eagerly accepts. However, Luke’s disappointed response stirs up the reservations she harbored upon receiving the offer. At home, surrounded by family and working on shared projects with Luke, she discovered contentment and satisfaction.
Prior to heading to the airport for her return to The Jingle Belles city group, Ashley instead goes back to The Rhythm Room. Her arrival encourages Luke to complete the performance. Eventually, Ashley manages to collect $30k to save her parents’ venue. As a result of finding love and freedom in uncertainty, she decides to stay in Sycamore Creek with Luke.
Watch The Merry Gentlemen only on Netflix.
