Happy Gilmore 2 to Feature Cameo From Original Movie’s Director

As a long-time fan who has watched every Adam Sandler movie at least a dozen times, I must say that the news of Happy Gilmore 2 is music to my ears! The return of Dennis Dugan, the director of the original film, adds an extra layer of excitement to this sequel. It’s like having a reunion with an old friend who you haven’t seen in years but never forgot.

The upcoming movie titled “Happy Gilmore 2” will include another guest appearance, as reported by THR; it appears that the original director of the film will be back for this sequel.

Who is the Happy Gilmore director playing in the sequel?

As stated by THR, Dennis Dugan, known for directing previous Adam Sandler productions like Big Daddy, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, and the Grown Ups series, is set to appear in the sequel under the character Doug Thompson, a role that represents the commissioner of the professional golf tour.

In the first movie, Dugan took on the same role, but this time around, someone else, Kyle Newacheck, will be in charge of the director’s chair. Nevertheless, Dugan is expected to remain part of the project.

Alongside Sandler, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald, three new faces are joining the cast for Happy Gilmore 2. These include NFL star Travis Kelce, filmmaker Benny Safdie, superstar music artist Bad Bunny, All Elite Wrestling star Maxwell Jacob Friedman (also known as MJF), and Ben Stiller who will reprise his role from the first movie. Production on the sequel has already begun.

In this production, Sandler and Herlihy were not only the writers but also took on producing roles. Meanwhile, Dugan works alongside Judit Maull, Kevin Grady, David Bausch, and Barry Bernardi as executive producers.

As of now, Netflix hasn’t disclosed the launch date for Happy Gilmore 2. However, you can watch the original Happy Gilmore movie on Peacock right now.

The 1996 film’s description goes like this: “Happy Gilmore (portrayed by Adam Sandler) has always dreamt of being a professional ice hockey player. However, he finds himself with an unexpected gift for another sport – golf. When his grandmother (played by Frances Bay) is at risk of losing her home, Happy decides to enter a golf tournament in an attempt to earn enough money to save it. With his impressive driving abilities and blunt language, Happy transforms into an unconventional golf champion, much to the dismay of the refined golf professionals.
