CS2: No Major for s1mple again, Falcons eliminated from RMR

CS2: No Major for s1mple again, Falcons eliminated from RMR

As a seasoned gamer with years of CS:GO under my belt, I can’t help but feel a pang of disappointment as I witness the Falcons‘ heart-wrenching exit from the Regional Major Rankings yet again. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for this team, and this year has been no exception.

Regardless of the arrival of CS:GO prodigy Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev in the early part of the year, the team’s difficulties ultimately led to a disappointing conclusion for their 2024 season. This unfortunate occurrence represents the second instance this year that they have failed to qualify for a Major, fueling more speculation about the long-term potential of their present lineup.

Falcons are out of the RMR!

In the Regional Major Rankings event, S1mple, known for being one of the best CS:GO players ever, consistently performed at a high level. He managed to keep a favorable kill-to-death ratio in the decisive match, demonstrating his exceptional skills individually. Despite his impressive firepower, the team’s weaknesses in structure and strategy prevented them from securing a Major spot once more. The Falcons narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Major tournament again.

On the initial layout of Vertigo, it became evident why Falcons typically steer clear of this map. They seemed to be at a loss on their T-site following it. After demonstrating resilience on Nuke, where Emil “Magisk” Reif delivered an impressive 21 kill performance, they struggled significantly on the final map of Mirage.

The latest setback in their project marks a troubled phase for the Falcons, who were once highly anticipated as a potential powerhouse. Originally, they were constructed around the former ENCE core, headed by Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer, along with seasoned winners Magisk and Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen – two illustrious figures known for their previous Major victories with Astralis and Team Vitality. The addition of esteemed coach Danny “zonic” Sørensen fueled high expectations. Unfortunately, the team has been grappling with harmony and consistent achievements, having missed both the Shanghai and Copenhagen Majors earlier this year.

Big changes are looming

It seems that the recent struggles in Shanghai might signal the end of the current lineup for this team. According to insiders, a major restructuring is imminent, with plans for a revamp by 2025. A highly anticipated move is the potential recruitment of Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, another star player who could form a powerful pairing with s1mple, if retained. Should NiKo join, it would signify a new beginning for the team as they strive to meet the high standards initially set when they were formed.

A disappointing end to a disappointing season

In spite of today’s sorrowful events, the Falcons continue to be an intriguing and ambitious organization, possessing the means to maintain their competitive edge. The acquisition of NiKo and a revamped team setup aims to rekindle their Major aspirations in 2025; however, whether they can achieve this goal is yet to be determined. Nonetheless, there’s no doubt that this year’s strategy has resulted in an undeniable flop.
