As a passionate fan of heartwarming romance novels and a die-hard NFL enthusiast, I can confidently say that Jamie Wesley’s Sugar Blitz series has been a delightful addition to my bookshelf! With the latest release, A Legend in the Baking, I found myself eagerly awaiting the chance to immerse myself in the world of Sugar Blitz once again.
Prior to Travis and Taylor, there was the “Sugar Blitz” series penned by Jamie Wesley, and we’re currently receiving the sequel titled “A Legend in the Baking“.
If you haven’t dived into this series yet, it focuses on three professional NFL players who jointly operate a bakery named Sugar Blitz. Being an ardent NFL fan with a soft spot for cupcakes, I find this series particularly appealing to me. “Fake It Till You Bake It” was launched in 2022, and now we’re eagerly awaiting the release of “A Legend in the Baking.
It’s a pleasure to express my gratitude to St. Martin’s Griffin for providing me with an advance reader copy, allowing me to delve into the book ahead of schedule and share my thoughts on it in a timely manner.
A Legend in the Baking is another sweet installment in the Sugar Blitz series.
Prior to delving into my review, I’d like to mention that while each book in the “Sugar Blitz” series can be read individually, it is recommended to follow their sequence for a more satisfying reading experience. This book features the couple from the first book quite extensively, so if you prefer not to have spoilers about them, I advise you to read “Fake It Till You Bake It” before moving on to this series’ subsequent books.
As a passionate gamer, I found myself living the life of August Hodges, the quietest of the Sugar Blitz crew, yet far from ordinary. One day, while handling duties at the bakery, I overheard some fellows grumbling about their inability to impress with cupcakes for their ladies without losing their masculinity. Being one who values fairness and camaraderie, I decided to step in. Little did I know, my straightforward approach would spark a flurry of video recordings, propelling me into viral stardom.
Luckily, there’s no one I’d rather turn to than Sloane, my best friend’s little sister and gaming partner. On the very day of my rant, she hears about it and realizes the opportunity it presents. She posts once about it, and suddenly our local cupcake shop is overwhelmed. Her brother, Donovan, wants her to manage their social media, but she doesn’t want to be dependent on him for work. Eventually, she agrees to his offer because it’s a step towards achieving her dream job.
As “Sugar Bae” August sweeps the internet, I find myself drawn into his orbit, thanks to my knack for social media. With Sugar Blitz riding high on popularity, I’m using my skills to amplify its reach. It’s amusing to observe this dance of denial between us, as an irresistible pull seems to be at play.
Besides the current plotline, we’re also delving into the history of Sloane and August, who crossed paths 12 years ago when Sloane was in high school and August was in college. Their relationship back then wasn’t clear-cut as August had a girlfriend but still harbored feelings for Sloane. Regardless, Sloane ends up feeling humiliated when she confesses her feelings to him, only for him to reject her.
As a gamer, I’ve found myself right in the thick of things, just like Jamie Wesley skillfully navigated that current predicament. Watching these characters communicate so candidly and authentically was truly invigorating. Not only was their developing relationship intriguing, but the Sugar Blitz boys were grappling with a town’s protest against their new base. It turned out to be an integral aspect of their social media strategy, yet it felt genuinely realistic and further endearing me to this fantastic book.
In “A Legend in the Baking”, the latest addition to the “Sugar Blitz” series, you’ll find a delightful blend of entertaining steamy moments, high-stakes tension, and an irresistible array of cupcakes. The intrigue lies in waiting to discover who the charming ladies’ man, Nicholas, will eventually choose among his suitors.
A Legend in the Baking by Jamie Wesley is out now where books are sold.
