As a seasoned movie buff with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that the recent turn of events surrounding Kanguva has left me quite perplexed. Having seen countless films, both critically acclaimed and flops, I’ve learned to appreciate the creative process and understand that sometimes, even the best-laid plans can go awry.
The film “Kanguva,” starring Suriya and directed by Siva, premiered on November 14, 2024, but received a mix of negative reviews from both critics and viewers. Now, it appears that the creators are planning to make adjustments to the movie, resubmitting it for re-censorship some days after its initial release.
According to a report by film enthusiast Amutha Bharathi, the creators of the movie have opted to shorten the film by approximately 12 minutes compared to its initial running time. Furthermore, this reduction seems to have resulted in the removal of most contemporary scenes from the film.
Ever since the debut of Kanguva, the film has faced criticism for its production quality and script. Lately, the movie’s producer, KE Gnanavel Raja’s spouse Neha, responded to the criticisms leveled against the film, particularly regarding the minimal screen time allocated to Disha Patani.
In a since-removed tweet by the producer’s spouse, she stated that “Angela’s character isn’t solely central in Kanguva; it wouldn’t be feasible for her to monopolize 2.5 hours of screen time! It’s fundamental, so yes, she was present primarily to add visual appeal!!!”, further noting they welcome constructive criticism but not disguised propaganda.
Notably, Jyotika, Suriya’s wife who is also an actress, publicly supported the film on her social media platform. In her post, Jyotika expressed her appreciation for the movie, stating that she was voicing her opinion as a cinema enthusiast rather than the spouse of the leading actor.
The actress spoke unfavorably about the initial portion of the movie and its sound, but she highly commended Suriya’s acting talent and felt proud of his transformation as an actor. Additionally, she applauded the film for its high quality and referred to it as “an exceptional cinematic journey,” despite her earlier criticisms.

The film titled Kanguva, featuring Suriya as the main character, is an action-packed fantasy epic that chronicles the life of a tribal warrior and his struggles against enemies to safeguard his homeland. Remarkably, the warrior’s heritage transcends time, drawing parallels with a contemporary bounty hunter.
The storyline of the movie revolves around the challenges they encounter and the fulfillment of a pledged commitment. Notably, Bobby Deol and Disha Patani grace their first Tamil films, while Karthi briefly appears in a special role too.
