As a long-time fan of Zack Snyder’s gritty and visually stunning storytelling, I am thrilled to see him taking on another action-packed project with Netflix! His expertise in creating intense, character-driven narratives within complex worlds is unparalleled, and the high-stakes world of the LAPD promises an exhilarating exploration of law, morality, and human drama.
Zack Snyder has been tapped to direct a new action movie for Netflix.
After the debut of Snyder’s Rebel Moon films, the director of 300 and Watchmen is currently engaged in creating an as-yet-unnamed action film focusing on the Los Angeles Police Department for a streaming platform.
Snyder is collaborating on the film script with Kurt Johnstad. Furthermore, he will take on the role of producer, joining forces with his wife, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller in this capacity.
What else do we know about Zack Snyder’s new action movie?
At present, particular aspects of the storyline are being kept secret; nevertheless, based on reports from The Hollywood Reporter, this upcoming movie falls into the category of action-thrillers. It’s said to be set in a high-stakes environment where life and death intersect, revolving around an exceptional LAPD team that grapples with the harsh clash between law and morality.
Initially, Snyder was slated to direct S.W.A.T., a 2003 crime thriller featuring Colin Farrell and Samuel L. Jackson. However, as per The Hollywood Reporter, he resigned from the project because he desired to create an R-rated film, but the studio insisted on a PG-13 rating instead.
A while back, Dan Lin, who heads film at Netflix, and I had a chat about our mutual desire to create an engaging and emotionally intense narrative centered around LAPD characters, set against the intricate and fascinating backdrop of the LAPD. This discussion left a strong impression on me. As you might guess, I’m thrilled to now be working with Dan, as well as my fantastic colleagues at Netflix, in bringing this story to life.
Apart from the two Rebel Moon films (including their director’s extended versions), Zack Snyder has also directed Netflix’s 2021 release, Army of the Dead. He collaborated with Shay Hatten on the story for the prequel movie to Army of the Dead, titled Army of Thieves. Additionally, he jointly developed the newly released Twilight of the Gods series.
A release date for Snyder’s new action movie has not yet been announced by Netflix.
