Tomb Raider Finds Its Lara Croft for Live-Action Amazon Show

As a fan who grew up watching the iconic Lara Croft take on thrilling adventures, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that Sophie Turner is in talks to play the beloved character in the upcoming Amazon series!

The upcoming Tomb Raider live-action series from Amazon may have found its leading lady.

Who is playing Lara Croft in the upcoming Amazon show?

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that according to recent reports from Deadline, it seems Sophie Turner, famously known for her role in Game of Thrones, is currently in talks to embody the legendary Lara Croft in an upcoming series! While details about the audition process are scarce, evidently Turner’s performances were impressive enough to land her the coveted role.

As a dedicated fan, I must say Sophie Turner is most famously recognized for her enduring portrayal of Sansa Stark in the acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones. Beyond that iconic role, she’s graced our screens as Jean Grey in the latest X-Men movies, and more recently, she played the lead in the 2024 British crime drama titled Joan.

At present, there isn’t much information available regarding the forthcoming Tomb Raider series, except that it has been characterized as “epic” and an “adventure spanning the globe,” as shared by Amazon MGM’s Jennifer Salke in May.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is most recognized for developing and acting in Fleabag, which debuted in 2016 and lasted for two seasons. In addition to this, she collaborated on the screenplay for No Time to Die in 2021, lent her voice to L3-37 in Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, and portrayed Helena Shaw in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, released in 2023.

If I could let my teenage self know about this, I believe she would be overwhelmed,” she said. “Being involved in bringing Tomb Raider to television is a significant part of my life, and I’m grateful to work with such dedicated partners. Lara Croft is close to my heart, as she is for many others, and I’m excited about the journey ahead, complete with bats.

Up until now, we’ve seen three film adaptations of Tomb Raider that feature live-action. In the first two films from 2001 and 2003, Angelina Jolie portrayed the main character Lara Croft. More recently, in a 2018 remake directed by Roar Uthaug, Alicia Vikander took on the role.

Apart from movies, Netflix will soon launch an animated show called “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft” towards the end of this year. Previously, a ten-episode animated series named “Revisioned: Tomb Raider” was unveiled back in 2007.
