As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent traversing various virtual landscapes, I can confidently say that LEGO Horizon Adventures has truly outdone itself by offering not one but four playable characters! The versatility this feature adds to the gameplay is simply exhilarating.
In contrast to the Horizon series, where the narrative revolves around Aloy’s journey into an unknown world she was once barred from, LEGO Horizon Adventures offers a diverse array of four unique characters, each of which can be unlocked and controlled throughout gameplay.
All playable characters and how to switch them in LEGO Horizon Adventures
The four characters that you can unlock and play as in LEGO Horizon Adventures are:
- Aloy – the main character who is available from the start of the game. She uses a bow and arrow and has good range and single-shot damage.
- Varl – Finish the Face to the Sun mission in Chapter 1 to unlock him. He uses a spear that does less damage but can hit a target multiple times, including multiple weak points if you throw it right.
- Teersa – Finish the A Girl and Her Destiny mission, which is the final quest in Chapter 1 to unlock her. She will throw bombs at enemies, doing good area-of-effect damage.
- Erend – You can unlock Erend by finishing the Shivering Summit quest in Chapter 2. Erend is more melee-focused, using a large warhammer to damage enemies.
In Mother’s Hope, you can change characters by interacting with them. Aloy is situated close to the All-Mother Tree, Varl is typically found near the main respawn point, and Teersa can be discovered as you journey towards the Snowchant Mountains in the northern part of the town.
A more straightforward approach involves initiating your mission from the initial campsite, where all characters convene. This way, you can effortlessly engage with the character you’d like to control without having to search for them throughout the town.
How to level up your characters
To advance your characters, head to the All-Mother Tree in Mother’s Hope’s initial zone. Engage with the tree, and you’ll find two menus waiting for you. The first menu displays the exclusive skill trees of each character. You can enhance these by playing as that character and accumulating experience.
On the screen’s left, you’ll find a common skill tree open for use. Investing studs here grants benefits that apply across all your characters, sparing you from deciding which ones to invest in individually.
