Meet Kanguva actor who quit school at 18, did odd jobs, became cinematographer and has worked with Thalapathy Vijay, Rajinikanth

As a dedicated follower of the dynamic world of cinema, I have had the immense pleasure of witnessing the remarkable journey of Natarajan Subramaniam, a versatile artist who has mastered both acting and cinematography with equal finesse. Born into a typical Tamil family, Natty, as he is affectionately known, defied societal norms by quitting school at an early age to pursue his passion for photography. His life story mirrors the old adage, “Life is what happens when you’re taking selfies” – a testament to his unwavering commitment to his craft.

Today’s Spotlight Interview features an individual who excels not only as an actor but also as a skilled cinematographer. Passionate about photography, he dared to pursue acting instead. His recent role can be seen alongside Suriya and Bobby Deol in the highly anticipated film Kanguva on the silver screen. Correctly guessed it? Yes, he is none other than Natarajan Subramaniam.

Who is Natarajan Subramaniam?

Born on June 23, 1971, into a typical Tamil household, Natarajan Subramaniam found himself drawn to the world of photography. Instead of pursuing higher education, his fascination led him to abandon school early and take up various odd jobs to finance his passion rather than attending college. By doing so, Natty embarked on a career as a still photographer and videographer at events, including wedding ceremonies.

Following his short-lived career as a photographer, he began collaborating with cinematographer BR Vijayalakshmi. With limited chances arising in the entertainment industry, he opted to focus on creating documentaries, advertisements, and music videos instead.

Later on, Natty dipped his toes into the Hindi film industry, collaborating with Anurag Kashyap for films such as Paanch, Last Train to Mahakali, and Black Friday. However, it was his collaboration with Thalapathy Vijay in Youth that catapulted him to fame.

Although he’s made a few films in Tamil, he decided to pursue his love for cinematography and worked on movies such as Jab We Met, Raanjhanaa, Golmaal Returns, among others. For those not familiar, Natty has collaborated with Rajinikanth in the 2014 film Lingaa, Vijay Sethupathi in Maharaja, and Dhanush in Karnan as well.

Among Natty’s top acting roles can be found movies such as Jeeva, Milaga, The Godfather, Walter, Yugi, Brother, Kadaisi Ulaga Por, Richie, Katham Katham, along with others.

Additionally, notable cinematography works by him include “Eklavya: The Royal Guard,” “Halla Bol,” “Lafangey Parindey,” “Desi Boyz,” “Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty,” “Knock Out,” among others.

Natarajan Subramaniam’s upcoming movies

Natarajan Subramaniam made an appearance in the movie “Kanguva”. Details about his character in the film are scarce, but fans are eager to witness him acting alongside Suriya for the first time. The premiere of Kanguva was met with favorable responses from viewers on its opening day, which was November 14.
