As a seasoned holiday movie enthusiast with a heart for heartwarming romantic comedies, let me tell you, Hot Frosty has undeniably become my new favorite Christmas tradition! This enchanting tale of love and magic is everything I look for in a festive film.
This year, Netflix is bringing the enchantment of Christmas to you with their original holiday romantic comedy, “Hot Frosty,” starring Lacey Chabert and Dustin Milligan. Not only does this movie bring the spirit of the season through heartwarming festive feelings and love, but it also includes a touch of fantasy as a snowman miraculously comes to life.
In the quaint little town of Hope Springs, I, a woman grieving the departure of my beloved husband for two long years, have been letting various aspects of life slip through my fingers. Yet, an enigmatic, handsome snowman in the town’s festive display captures my attention when I bestow upon him my scarf. To my astonishment, he transforms into a man, stripping down to nothing and frolicking about town before making his way straight into my heart.
Instead of asking “But how does Jack manage to stay cold without melting before the Christmas magic fades?” it could be rephrased as “How does Jack maintain his frozen state without thawing until after Christmas magic subsides?
Warning: Spoilers ahead from the Hot Frosty ending!
Jack becomes a real man!
Following Kathy’s revival of Jack, she strives to maintain his privacy due to his safety concerns, as he exhibits less conventional human traits. Moreover, it’s essential that he avoids warmth or heated environments, or else he might liquefy. Nevertheless, a warrant is pending for his apprehension and Nate (Craig Robinson) is relentless in his pursuit.
It’s true that Nate isn’t familiar with the identity of the person he’s searching for. The only thing he’s certain about is that someone smashed a window at a nearby clothing shop and ran through town naked. Regrettably, Nate manages to identify Jack as the streaker and apprehends him during the Christmas festivities at a restaurant. Unfortunately for Jack, his bail has been set quite high, at $2,000, which is an excessive amount for a snowman!
As a gamer, I rally support from the townsfolk to gather funds for my buddy Jack’s release from jail. Inside, he’s deteriorating at an alarming rate due to the heat, essentially melting away. Kathy and Ed manage to get him sprung from the clink once Nate agrees, but it seems like we’ve come too late. Jack’s lifeless, even after we submerge him in snow, hoping to revive him. Unfortunately, our efforts don’t work right away.
After confessing her growing affection for him, Dottie (Katy Mixon Greer) guides Kathy away, leaving Jack’s scarf behind. This is when Jack regains consciousness. The room fills with joy at seeing Jack alive, but he expresses an odd sensation. Instead of warmth, he feels a chill! It seems the kiss had some sort of enchantment, as Jack has now become a fully functioning human being.
At last, a warm, Frosty serenade echoes Coldplay’s “Feels like I’m falling in love,” as Kathy and Jack find their blissful ending, sharing the holidays together. With gratitude for the book Jack had given her, Kathy mends their chilly home’s air conditioning system, ensuring it never freezes again. In a twist of fate, Kathy presents Jack with a Hawaiian vacation, which now spares him from any fear of melting!
