What else do we know about the live-action Moana movie?
For the upcoming Moana movie, the screenplay was penned by Jared Bush and Dana Ledoux Miller. It’s Kail’s first time directing a feature-length narrative film, with Frankie Adams portraying the character Sina and Rena Owen taking on the role of Gramma Tala.
3000 years ago, the most skilled navigators on Earth journeyed across the enormous Pacific Ocean, uncovering the numerous islands of Oceania. However, for a thousand years after that, their sea voyages ceased – and the reason remains unknown. From Walt Disney Animation Studios comes Moana, an exciting tale about a daring teenage girl who embarks on a perilous journey to save her people. Along her voyage, Moana (Auliʻi Cravalho) encounters the powerful demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson), who helps her on her mission to become a master navigator. Together, they traverse the open sea in an action-packed adventure, facing gigantic monsters and insurmountable obstacles. As they progress, Moana completes the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers what she’s always yearned for: her true self. Be aware that some scenes or patterns with flashing lights may affect photosensitive viewers.
In U.S. cinemas on July 10, 2026, the live-action version of Moana, produced by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, will be shown. On the other hand, the sequel to Moana, titled Moana 2, is scheduled for release on November 27, 2024.
