As someone who has followed Johnny Somali’s antics for quite some time now, it feels like watching a never-ending reality show – only this one is filled with more legal entanglements than dramatic twists! The latest chapter in his saga, involving deepfake AI and a Korean streamer named bongbong, is as intriguing as it is unfortunate.
It’s not unexpected to learn that Johnny Somali is once again encountering legal issues in South Korea, given his past record of errors. This time around, he may be looking at imprisonment and a significant financial penalty.
Johnny Somali uses deepfake AI to show himself kissing Korean streamer
In one of his live streams, Johnny Somali displayed a video on his laptop that seemingly depicted him and Korean streamer bongbong kissing in a car. However, it soon became evident to viewers that this video was fake. The clue that it wasn’t genuine was the presence of a hailuo Ai watermark at the bottom right corner of the screen.
On Somali’s social media platforms, you won’t find the video or live stream anymore, but numerous video clips and screenshots of it can still be found scattered across the internet.
This year on September 26th, a law was approved in South Korea, imposing penalties of up to seven years imprisonment and a fine equivalent to approximately $22,000 USD for anyone found with sexually explicit deepfakes involving other individuals.
It’s evident that Somali violated Korean law again in this instance, which also upset Bongbong personally. Given their past collaborations, it’s likely that Bongbong felt let down by the situation.
Bongbong chose to broadcast herself lodging a grievance against Somali at the Cheongwon Police Station, hurling derogatory remarks like referring to Somali as an “insulting term for monkey.” However, she eventually opted not to proceed with the charges; the specifics of her decision remain unclear.
As a gamer, I find myself in a predicament similar to my character in a tough game level. The authorities have decided to keep pursuing legal action against me, much like the persistent boss that keeps resurrecting. This decision seems to be rooted in the fact that I’m already dealing with a heap of other charges stacked against me, making this situation even more challenging, just like facing multiple bosses in one level.
In this situation, Somali’s spoken apology may not help him much. Unfortunately, he is currently barred from leaving South Korea and is likely to face imprisonment due to his offenses.
