As a long-time fan of legal dramas and a connoisseur of suspenseful plot twists, I must say that the revamped Matlock series has truly captivated me! The introduction of Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock has been nothing short of brilliant. Her character’s cunning wit and intricate web of deception has kept me glued to my screen every week.
Matlock is planning to reintroduce a beloved character and has announced the total number of episodes for the CBS drama series!
Nowadays, it’s common knowledge that CBS is rebooting the show “Matlock,” as they’ve been sharing details about it in their promotions. At first glance, it seemed like a remake of the 1980s NBC series featuring Andy Griffith as Ben Matlock, a lawyer whose age belied his sharp intellect and talent for acquitting clients.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share my excitement about the latest CBS series featuring the illustrious Kathy Bates as Madeline “Matty” Matlock – quite the coincidence, isn’t it? She humorously points out the shared moniker with her character. After retiring, our resourceful Matty finds herself back at Jacobson Moore, law firm, claiming a need for employment due to her unfortunate husband’s demise and the responsibility of raising her grandson. Her knack for subtle manipulation and ability to fly under the radar helps her gather information, eventually landing her a position within the firm.
Initially, it unveils the secret: Mattie, in reality, is Madeline Kingston – a wealthy woman whose husband is still alive, assisting her in raising their grandson. They tragically lost their daughter due to opioids, and Mattie suspects someone from the company concealed the risks associated with these drugs. Consequently, she decides to disguise herself to discover the culprit.
In each episode, Matty has been involved in multiple cases, all while continuing her covert mission. The storyline has taken some unexpected turns, but the unpredictable nature of the plot has boosted its popularity and secured a second season for the show.
In Episode 3, Matty faced difficulties when the law firm hired Shae Banfield (Yael Grobglas), who they nicknamed “The Meerkat.” A highly skilled consultant, Shae had an uncanny ability to detect dishonesty in people. Given that Matty’s profession revolves around deception, it was understandable that he felt uneasy about her presence.
Fortunately, she avoided Shae’s notice, leading the woman to think that Matty’s apprehension and hidden emotions during the trial were just her own jitters. Later on, it appears that this character is set to return.
When does Shae return to Matlock?
As a gamer, I’m thrilled to share the news that Shae is set to make a comeback, appearing not just once but multiple times! The next time you’ll see her will be in Episode 7, airing on Thursday, November 21st. She’s also scheduled for Episodes 11 and 13. Can’t wait to catch up with her on my screen!
Executive Producer Dick Wolf also verified that the first season of Matlock will comprise 18 episodes, which is fewer than the typical CBS drama series that usually air 22 episodes per season. However, this shorter season length might be beneficial for Matlock, as the main emphasis is on Matty’s quest to uncover the truth at Jacobson Moore, and the writers believe it’s more effective not to prolong the storyline. Wolf has disclosed that the central mystery regarding who buried those files will be resolved by the season finale, although it remains uncertain how the series will progress beyond this point.
Shae’s comeback will make for an intriguing confrontation with Matty, as it becomes more challenging for Madeline to hide her secret. It seems likely that one of Matty’s colleagues will uncover the truth about Madeline and potentially join her in her mission. Having Shae as the discoverer would add a twist, given her knack for uncovering secrets within the firm’s hierarchy. Additionally, it is enjoyable to imagine Shae engaging with Olympia, including advising her against pursuing a relationship with lawyer Elijah.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m thrilled to announce that my nemesis, Shae, is back for another round in this unpredictable first season of our beloved CBS hit game!
Matlock airs Thursdays at 10/9c on CBS.
