Rhea Ripley Reflects on Women’s Long Road to Recognition in WWE

As a long-time wrestling fan with countless hours spent cheering for my favorite Divas turned Superstars, I can wholeheartedly say that the progress women have made within WWE is nothing short of phenomenal. The journey hasn’t always been easy, and it’s heartening to see someone like Rhea Ripley openly discuss the challenges faced by female wrestlers in the industry.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible strides women have taken in the world of professional wrestling, like the formidable Rhea Ripley. Over the years, ladies in WWE have been breaking barriers and setting new standards, making their mark in this thrilling arena.

In recent years, spectators have observed a transformation in the female lineup of WWE. This change started in 2015 when women’s matches and segments were initially restricted in duration. This move sparked a strong criticism towards WWE’s handling of its female talent. Despite being labeled as Divas and given brief airtime on television, their segments consistently garnered superior ratings.

As a result of the backlash, WWE may have made its most significant change yet – treating women as Superstars instead of Divas. Over time, the promotion has given women more opportunities than ever before. Now, not only do they appear in the opening segment, but they also headline the show.

2019 marked a historical milestone for WWE as WrestleMania 35 saw its main event led by women for the first time, with Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey, and Charlotte Flair taking center stage. Although significant strides have been made for women in WWE, Rhea Ripley shared her views on the persistent stereotypes that females within the industry have encountered.

Lately, professional wrestler Rhea Ripley chatted with Jazzy’s World TV and delved into the transformation of women’s wrestling in WWE. She touched upon the hurdles females have encountered when striving for recognition and respect within the business. Moreover, she candidly shared her thoughts on the derogatory labeling of women as the “toilet break” segment, a harmful stereotype that has tarnished their dedication.

Ripley pointed out, “It’s easy for people to underestimate us. The women in WWE have made tremendous strides… I believe the main challenge was getting people to treat us with respect…” The legendary wrestler went on to say that female wrestlers in WWE are now working side by side with their male counterparts, highlighting the importance of acknowledging their significant impact on professional wrestling.
