Japanese killer leaked for DBD March update, but it’s not The Grudge

Japanese killer leaked for DBD March update, but it’s not The Grudge

As a long-time fan of Dead by Daylight, I must say that the anticipation for the next licensed killer is always exhilarating! The leaks about a potential Japanese killer from Tokyo Ghoul have certainly piqued my interest. Having grown up watching anime and manga, the idea of a character from such a beloved series joining the ranks of DBD’s killers is incredibly exciting.

In the remaining months of Year 9, Dead By Daylight is anticipated to introduce another licensed killer before transitioning into Year 10. As per the roadmap, this new character will likely debut independently, much like Alan Wake and Tomb Raider did. Although no official confirmation has been made yet, leaks hint that the upcoming killer in March hails from a Japanese intellectual property, but it’s not Kayako from The Grudge.

Prior to another unlicensed renegade showing up, Dead By Daylight enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to in March. The launch date and kickoff time for the updated 2v8 mode is just around the corner, and BeHaviour has disclosed the complete roadmap for November 2024. Furthermore, Chapter 34’s debut has been slightly moved up from December, and the PTB has unveiled perks for The Houndmaster as well as Taurie Cain.

This month offers a wealth of content for appreciation, yet many Dead by Daylight (DBD) fans can’t help but ponder over who the final licensed killer of Year 9 will be, due in March. So far, there has been much speculation that it might be Kayako from The Grudge, but now another strong candidate from a Japanese intellectual property has emerged.

Dead By Daylight leak points to another Japanese killer for March

In March, the last licensed killer for Dead by Daylight’s Year 9 will be introduced. As per the Year 9 roadmap, this addition doesn’t come with a new survivor or map, making it a standalone content update.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been following theories about The Grudge’s killer, and it seems like most of us have been leaning towards Kayako for quite some time now. Now, it’s important to clarify that Kayako hasn’t been officially confirmed by leakers, but the rumors started with RuthlessLeaks hinting that the killer is more popular in Eastern territories and associated with a film released after 2000. To add fuel to this speculation, next year marks the Ju-On series’ 25th anniversary, which has only strengthened the assumption that Kayako could be the culprit.

Instead of Kayako from The Grudge, it appears that the licensed character for March could potentially be from the Japanese manga and anime Tokyo Ghoul, as suggested in a post on the LeaksDBD subreddit prior to the DBDLeaks Discord being hacked.

The message in the DBDLeaks Discord reads, “I’d like to clarify that my comments about the March leak and its connection to Tokyo Ghoul are not meant as a joke or prank.

One factor making this leak somewhat plausible is that the message was published prior to the unveiling of Chapter 34, and it correctly disclosed The Houndmaster as the Chapter 34 killer instead of The Hellion, which had been speculated online earlier.

Besides hinting at Tokyo Ghoul as the choice for March, the text also disputed rumors about The Grudge and Perfect Blue collaboration being set for March. However, despite speculation from Ruthless, it seems a collaboration with Perfect Blue might not be materializing. Yet, the message stated “I’m unsure about the anime collaboration,” implying that there may still be an upcoming collaboration.

This is all speculation rather than anything official so the killer could be from neither The Grudge or Tokyo Ghoul. However, if it is Tokyo Ghoul, it will be interesting to see who is selected as the rogue. Per comments on Reddit, the most likely candidate is Kaneki.

Behavior Interactive hinted that the upcoming licensed killer for Dead by Daylight is an unconventional pick, which might stir debates among DBD players. Moreover, on the occasion of DBD Day, Behavior Interactive announced they will be introducing more Japanese intellectual properties into Dead By Daylight.
