As an ardent fan of Tamil cinema, I’ve witnessed the evolution of Ajith Kumar‘s career from a local rowdy in Dheena to the action hero we all know and love today. I remember the days when everyone called him “Thala,” a title that echoed with respect and admiration. However, it’s heartwarming to see the man himself request us to address him simply as Ajith, Ajith Kumar, or Just AK.
20 years ago, Tamil film star Ajith Kumar earned the nickname “Thala,” which means The Head or Leader, following the release of the movie Dheena in 2001. Recently, though, in 2021, he officially requested that his fans no longer use this name for him.
Through a post on platform X (previously Twitter), shared by AK’s manager Suresh Chandra, the actor expressed his preference for being referred to as either Ajith, Ajith Kumar, or simply as AK, rather than “Thala” or any other title before his name in the future, addressing the media, public, and genuine fans.

For a long time in both media and among fans, the name tag for Ajith Kumar has been “Ajith.” Interestingly, the movie “Dheena,” where Ajith played the main character, was directed by AR Murugadoss in his first directorial endeavor. For those who may not know this already.
In this action movie, AK starred as the main character, portraying a troublemaker from the area. Suresh Gopi also headlined the film, with Laila being cast as Ajith’s romantic interest. The film was a hit, both in terms of critical acclaim and box office success. This newfound popularity opened doors for the actor to pursue additional action roles.
Back in 2011, on the eve of his 40th birthday, Ajith Kumar chose to disband his fan groups, effective May 1st, 2011. Expressing his heartfelt appreciation for the love of his fans, this talented actor opted to distance himself from having official fan clubs and cautioned his supporters against such activities.

Just like Ajith Kumar opting not to be known as “Thala,” renowned actor Kamal Haasan has chosen to do away with his nickname “Ulaganayagan.” This name, meaning “Hero of the World,” was initially bestowed upon him by director KS Ravikumar in recognition of his exceptional natural talent.
Overjoyed by the news, here I am, your humble fan, ecstatically sharing that the iconic figure himself has chosen to go by the names “Kamal Haasan,” “Kamal,” or the abbreviated “KH” in the public sphere. It feels surreal to address him by these familiar names, a testament to his enduring connection with his adoring fans like me.

Presently, Ajith Kumar is working on the set of his upcoming film titled Good Bad Ugly, slated for release during Pongal 2025. Moreover, it’s expected that he will also debut another movie in 2025 called Vidaamuyarchi.
