As a die-hard zombie enthusiast who’s witnessed the rise and fall (and rise again) of the undead since the 80s, I can confidently say that Capcom’s decision to remaster Dead Rising is nothing short of a triumphant return to my horror roots.

The beloved Dead Rising franchise has seen numerous successful games and even movies, but now it’s time for Capcom (alongside Frank West) to revisit the origin – with a beautifully enhanced remake of the initial game.

Patient Zero

Initially launched in 2006, the game Dead Rising stood out as one of the most popular zombie titles during the 2000s. As photojournalist Frank West, players found themselves wading through a mall teeming with zombies, engaging in a gruesome blend of hacking and slashing. The unique mix of grisly violence, dark humor was well-appreciated and paved the way for several successful sequels.

Now, the zombies from the past have resurfaced in the Dead Rising: Deluxe Remaster, offering enhanced visuals and numerous quality-of-life upgrades.

This updated version offers enhanced realism with improved facial expressions, textures in the materials, and blood spatters for added authenticity. It includes a full voice-over to boost immersion, boasts a sleeker user interface, refined controls, and an automatic saving function for convenience.

A new game became available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC (Steam) a couple of weeks ago. Now, they’ve also launched a free trial version of the game so you can test it out beforehand. However, remember that progress saved in the demo won’t carry over if you decide to purchase the full version as they are separate entities.

Will you be trying out Dead Rising this weekend?
