EXCLUSIVE: Amaran star Sivakarthikeyan opens up about ‘passing the baton’ scene with Thalapathy Vijay in The GOAT and what it means to him

As an ardent follower and admirer of Tamil cinema, I find myself utterly captivated by the journey of Sivakarthikeyan, a star who embodies humility, talent, and grace. His latest film, Amaran, is a testament to his versatility as an actor, and his recent cameo in Thalapathy Vijay‘s The Greatest of All Time (GOAT) is the icing on the cake.

As an ardent fan here, I can’t help but revel in the triumph of Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi following their recent cinematic masterpiece, Amaran. The film has been captivating audiences across theaters, thanks to the powerful word-of-mouth buzz. To top it all off, director Rajkumar Periasamy and the star-studded cast recently graced the TopMob Masterclass stage for an engaging conversation – a moment I can’t wait to revisit!

In the course of the interview, Sivakarthikeyan shared insights into his guest role in the blockbuster film The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), starring Thalapathy Vijay, and discussed the symbolism behind the ‘passing the torch’ moment for him.

The Amaran star declared, “His accomplishments are uniquely his own, untouchable by others. To me, it appeared as a heartwarming moment when an esteemed, prominent actor shared the spotlight with a rising star. This exchange seemed to me like a gesture of affection, and I interpreted it as such. His three-decade journey, marked by personal strife and victories, is something he has earned, and I can’t simply step in and claim, ‘I will carry on from here.’ It doesn’t work that way.

Sivakarthikeyan shared that the brief appearance he had in The GOAT would be etched in his memory for a lifetime, and he also reminisced about his well-known tweet discussing the successful movie Thuppakki starring Vijay.

He said, “I tweeted about the Thuppakki film. I know people who have real guns are not mass, but those who have the Thuppakki ticket are the real mass, that’s what I tweeted. So, with the same star, I’m sharing the screen and doing a cameo in his film. It’s very special for me. So, I don’t see that as passing on a baton or something. I learn good things from all my senior stars. I learn all the good things from them, and I’ll try to incorporate that and give good films or bigger hit films like them. But I’ll never think, ‘I want to be them.'”

Currently, the movie “Amaran” featuring Sivakarthikeyan is nearing the Rs 100 crore mark at the Tamil Nadu box office. In this film, he played Major Mukund Varadarajan and Sai Pallavi was his on-screen wife, Indhu Rebecca Varghese.
