Jack Black Is Satan in First Photos for Farrelly Brothers’ Christmas Movie Dear Santa

As a longtime fan of comedies and Jack Black‘s eccentric acting style, I am beyond thrilled about the upcoming Christmas movie, “Dear Santa.” Having grown up watching the Farrelly Brothers’ masterpieces like “Dumb and Dumber” and “There’s Something About Mary,” I can confidently say that their unique blend of humor and chaos is exactly what we need this holiday season.

The first look of Jack Black as Satan in the new Christmas comedy Dear Santa has been revealed.

What is Dear Santa about?

Entertainment Weekly’s summary of the plot goes like this: “In this cheerful movie, we follow young believer Liam Turner (portrayed by Robert Timothy Smith). Determined to convince his skeptical friends that Santa exists, he writes a letter inviting him personally. Unfortunately, Liam isn’t the best speller and addresses it to Satan (played by Jack Black) instead. To his surprise, Satan – who rarely receives letters from children – is touched and decides to visit Liam. This leads to a series of funny, chaotic, and unpredictable events.

The Farrelly brothers have a reputation for creating numerous comedy films jointly, such as Dumb and Dumber (1994), Kingpin (1996), There’s Something About Mary (1998), among others. Later on, Peter Farrelly directed Green Book (2018) and The Greatest Beer Run Ever (2022) individually, while Bobby Farrelly took on Champions (2023) as a solo project.

Bobby praised the casting of Jack, saying he’s always got a hint of mischief about him, yet he’s incredibly likable – that’s just Jack. He explained they didn’t want to turn the production into a horror movie or something similar; instead, they aimed for comedy. Balancing the portrayal of this famous character while keeping it entertaining was a delicate task. And Jack proved to be the ideal choice for the role.

Dear Santa will be released on Paramount+ on November 25, 2024.
