As a dedicated Stardew Valley player with countless hours spent tending to my crops and animals, I can’t help but feel a mix of amusement and frustration over the latest update saga. On one hand, I’m thrilled to see the game evolving with new features and bug fixes. But on the other, I find myself yearning for my missing chickens!
Fan anticipation has been building for quite some time regarding the major update for Stardew Valley. At last, their patience has been rewarded! However, there seems to be a slight oversight… Where are the chickens?
Stardew Valley’s 1.6 and 1.6.9 updates
The significant 1.6 update, launched on March 19 this year, enriched Stardew Valley with numerous new elements: from fresh festivals and activities to the inclusion of a Goby fish. These additions offer players an extended, fun-filled gaming experience, along with addressing various bugs for smoother gameplay.
On November 4th, specifically this past Monday, an update version 1.6 was made available for both console and mobile platforms. This allows even more individuals to experience all the latest features and improvements. Additionally, the game’s creator, Eric Barone (or ConcernedApe as he is known on social media), followed up with another small update on top of the initial release.
The 1.6.9 update isn’t as expansive as the 1.6 update, but it does introduce some new content, primarily concentrates on addressing bugs, making slight adjustments to existing content, and enhancing some of the game’s older aspects.
However, a curious bug has made itself evident ever since the first release of version 1.6.
The bug that makes chickens disappear
With the recent update, a fresh kind of farm terrain, known as Meadowlands, has been incorporated into the game. Upon commencing a new game with this land type, you’ll find a barn (coop) and a pair of chickens ready to assist you in your farming endeavors right from the start.
It’s quite peculiar that starting from the second day, the chickens seem to vanish whenever you open the gate of their coop.
Barone quickly took note of this and posted about it on X / Twitter. He stated:
PSA: there is currently an issue, if you start a new farm on the meadowlands farm and open the animal door on the coop day 1, your chickens will disappear. If you leave the door closed for one day, it should save them. We will fix this.
Lore: There is a wild coyote on the farm day 1 rn
📣 Important Notice: At present, there’s an issue on the Meadowlands Farm where if you open the coop door for your chickens on their first day, they might vanish. To prevent this, make sure to keep the door closed for at least one day initially. Rest assured, we’re working on a solution! Lore: A wild coyote has taken up residence on our farm…

Developers typically don’t use humor when addressing issues within their games, but Barone appeared to be in a playful mood. It was almost like he anticipated the reactions his post would elicit.
You should keep it and make the coyote adoptable

I’d adopt the crap out of a coyote. Just saying.

Is there a specific name for the coyote? And after fixing the bug, will it disappear entirely or persist within the Stardew Valley Multiverse?

It’s clear that things will escalate further. Next week, I expect to find a cunning coyote named Grahbag or similar, who will deliver a golden dragon fruit – remember, I left one in the well at midnight for just this purpose, to obtain a magical staff.

Rather than fretting excessively over the bug, there’s a growing clamor for this elusive coyote to materialize. Regrettably, Barone hasn’t resolved the problem or integrated the coyote into the game as yet, but there’s still hope he will!
