James Gunn Clarifies His Involvement in Max’s Creature Commandos Series

As a die-hard DC fan who has been eagerly awaiting the premiere of “Creature Commandos,” I can hardly contain my excitement! This unique series, set to debut on December 5, 2024, promises to be a thrilling addition to James Gunn’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. Although it seems that Mr. Gunn himself won’t be directing any episodes, his supervision of the main cast’s voice recordings is enough for me.

James Gunn, one of the co-CEOs at DC Studios, has now made it clear that he’ll be involved with the long-anticipated television series, “Creature Commandos”. This show is set to debut on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Notably, this will be Gunn’s initial TV project as part of Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in his new DC Universe continuity.

The show follows a clandestine squad of monstrous inmates who are called upon for assignments that are too risky for humans. In dire situations where all other options have been exhausted, they become your least favorable yet necessary choice.

What did James Gunn say about Creature Commandos series?

Through his Threads account, Gunn clarified that he won’t be responsible for directing any episodes of the forthcoming mature animated series. Yet, he has overseen the voice recording sessions for the main cast members.

For clarification, I didn’t serve as the director for Creature Commandos; instead, I managed the main voice recordings and supervised the entire process. A different team of skilled individuals was in charge of directing the episodes, with Dean Lorey taking the lead.

1) In Creature Commandos, you’ll hear Frank Grillo voice the character of Rick Flag Sr., Indira Varma portraying the Bride of Frankenstein, David Harbour playing Eric Frankenstein, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana Rostovic, Alan Tudyk voicing Doctor Phosphorus, Zoë Chao as Nina Mazursky, Sean Gunn doing both G.I. Robot and Weasel, and Steve Agee taking on the role of John Economos. Viola Davis reprises her character, Amanda Waller, in animated form. Alongside Gunn, Peter Safran, Dean Lorey, and Sam Register are executive producers, with Rick Morales serving as a supervising producer.
