As a long-time fan of Mel Brooks’ hilarious masterpieces, I can barely contain my excitement for Spaceballs 2! Having grown up watching the original, it’s truly a surreal experience to learn that Josh Gad is not only involved but co-writing this sequel.
Presently, Josh Gad is engaged in crafting the script for “Spaceballs 2”, set light-years away in a distant galaxy. As one of the co-writers for this long-awaited sequel, Gad shared some exciting news during an interview with Forbes. He disclosed that his draft for “Spaceballs 2” has been finalized and is already receiving acclaim.
If MGM hadn’t confined me in their Culver cells, I would share that the script is finalized,” Gad stated. “Everyone who’s read it has been astonished. Working on this project with and next to Mel Brooks has been a career highlight for me.
Gad went on: “It feels like a vivid dream that all this has transpired. Mel has been incredibly supportive, engaged, and enthusiastic about this project because it’s the one that slipped through our fingers initially. It’s a joy to finally bring to life what Yogurt predicted in the first film. I can’t disclose any further details at the moment, but I can tell you that every minute of every day is dedicated to bringing this project closer to fruition – and I believe we’re getting close to the finish line.
Who is involved with Josh Gad in Spaceballs 2?
In July of 2024, it was announced that Spaceballs 2 originated from Amazon MGM Studios. Jonah Hill will take on multiple roles in this upcoming Spaceballs sequel as both actor and writer, with production duties also under his belt. Joining Hill as co-writers are Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez, known for their work on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Pokemon Detective Pikachu. The sequel will be directed by Josh Greenbaum (Strays).
Mel Brooks, who wrote and directed “Spaceballs”, is set to produce its sequel, with Kevin Salter taking on the role of executive producer.
1987 saw the launch of Spaceballs, a riotous sci-fi spoof that gleefully poked fun at beloved franchises like Star Wars, Alien, Star Trek, and Planet of the Apes. I was fortunate enough to be part of this stellar cast, which included the inimitable Mel Brooks, Bill Pullman, John Candy, Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, and the iconic Joan Rivers.
