Netflix’s Under Paris Sequel Confirmed, Filming Window Revealed

As a gamer with a penchant for action-packed disaster movies, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming sequel to Netflix’s blockbuster hit, Under Paris! Having grown up watching movies like Jaws and The Poseidon Adventure, the idea of a modern take on these classics set in the heart of Paris has always been intriguing.

Netflix’s summer smash hit, titled “Under Paris“, is set to receive a follow-up due to its impressive viewership since its debut. The upcoming 2024 film, dubbed as a surprise success, follows the story of a sorrowful scientist who goes to extreme lengths to shield the people of Paris from an impending shark attack. After its launch in June, Under Paris quickly climbed the ranks among top Netflix France films, accumulating a staggering 179.80 million hours of view time. Given this popularity, fans have eagerly anticipated news about the sequel to Under Paris, which actress Bérénice Bejo has officially confirmed in a recent interview.

Netflix’s Under Paris sequel to begin filming in 2025

As reported by Bejo, work on the follow-up to Under Paris has begun, with filming set to start in September 2025.

During an interview with La Tribune, the French actress spoke about the upcoming second installment of the disaster movie series. While conversing in her native language, Bejo shared some fascinating stories about the success of Under Paris and offered insights into its eagerly anticipated sequel. She revealed that filming for Under Paris 2 (Sous La Seine 2) will take place in September 2025. Unlike a typical sequel, this movie will be unique and distinct, she said, but it will still feature a shark.

Bérénice Bejo discussed some benefits that came her way as a result of the unexpected success of Xavier Gens’ directorial project. She explained, “I received some unique invitations: Anne Hidalgo (Paris mayor) asked me to swim in the Seine with her.” However, she chose not to accept this invitation. Additionally, Hidalgo asked Bejo if she had served as a model for the mayor’s character. Bejo clarified that it was more of a blend of Hidalgo and Valérie Pécresse that inspired the character.

Though Bejo has confirmed it, Netflix hasn’t made an official announcement about the sequel yet. However, given the actress’ updates and the original film’s success, it seems likely that Netflix will soon make an official announcement about this anticipated follow-up.
