Squid Game Season 2 Creator Reveals When Series Will End

As a devoted fan of Squid Game, I can’t help but feel a mix of emotions hearing about Hwang Dong-hyuk’s decision to wrap up the series with Season 3. On one hand, it feels like saying goodbye to a beloved friend who has been through so much (and made me jump out of my seat more times than I can count!). On the other hand, knowing that we’re getting not just one but two more seasons is truly a blessing.

The creator of “Squid Game,” Hwang Dong-hyuk, has revealed his reasons for planning a third season, explaining that he believes the story has reached its natural endpoint. At a For Your Consideration event in Los Angeles, Hwang elaborated that this final season will provide him with the opportunity to fully express the intended narrative as it follows the journey of protagonist Seong Gi-hun. This decision underscores a commitment to wrapping up Gi-hun’s storyline within the existing framework of the show.

Hwang Dong-hyuk says ‘we don’t need any further stories’ after Squid Game Season 3

The creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has shared some insights about the future of the popular Netflix show. He revealed that Season 3 will serve as the final chapter in the Squid Game franchise.

The creator mentioned, “I felt that using the story of Squid Game, I could express everything I intended to convey, particularly focusing on Gi-hun’s character. In my opinion, there’s no need for additional stories beyond this point.” This implies that Lee Jung-jae’s character arc in the series may find a conclusive resolution by the end of Squid Game.

Hwang and actor Lee Jung-jae revealed insights into the intense second season, set to air on December 26. According to Hwang, Season 2 centers around Gi-hun’s return to the lethal games, this time with a fresh goal: to undermine the system from within. “For seasons two and three, we will be tracking Gi-hun’s journey as he embarks on a darker transformation, both physically and emotionally,” Hwang shared (through The Hollywood Reporter). This narrative arc suggests a deeper development for Gi-hun’s character.

Lee Jung-jae expressed his initial reaction upon reading the script for season 2, stating, “This is flawless, there’s nothing at all that needs adjusting.” His depiction of Gi-hun showcases a character significantly impacted by past traumas from the games. It mirrors the intense emotional and psychological strain of revisiting such a bleak environment.

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that Netflix revealed Squid Game will wrap up with Season 3. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk explained his decision, expressing that he discovered a satisfying ending that perfectly captures his intended storyline without necessitating additional seasons.
