Ryan Reynolds to Reunite With Hugh Jackman After Deadpool & Wolverine

As a die-hard fan who’s had the pleasure of witnessing the electrifying chemistry between Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Shawn Levy in the Deadpool & Wolverine series, this news has me more excited than a kid on Christmas morning!

Ryan Reynolds shared in a recent chat that he’s penning a script for an upcoming film, not related to Marvel, where he aims to team up once more with his Deadpool & Wolverine co-star, Hugh Jackman, and director Shawn Levy. Their last joint project, the third installment of Reynolds’ Deadpool series, premiered in US cinemas on July 26, 2024, and set a record as the highest-earning R-rated movie ever made, amassing approximately $1.338 billion at the global box office while costing just $200 million to produce.

Ryan Reynolds working on new movie with Deadpool & Wolverine’s Hugh Jackman

In a recent episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Ryan Reynolds revealed his plans for the upcoming year: he will be penning a script for a film that brings him together with Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy once more. This new project is not associated with Marvel. Reynolds himself said, “I’m dedicating this year to writing. I’m working on a movie where Hugh [Jackman] and Shawn [Levy] can join me, but it won’t be tied to Marvel.

It’s still undetermined what genre of movie this will be, given that Reynolds didn’t disclose many details about the storyline. However, it is worth mentioning that apart from Deadpool and Wolverine, Levy has collaborated with Reynolds on two other projects – Free Guy in 2021 and The Adam Project in 2022.

Initially, the film earned an impressive global box office revenue of $331.5 million against a production budget ranging from $100 to $125 million in cinemas. Later, it was streamed on Netflix after a restricted one-night-only theater release. According to Samba TV, around three million American households tuned in to watch The Adam Project during its debut weekend.

Previously, Levy and Jackson had collaborated prior to their work on Deadpool and Wolverine. Their earlier project was the 2011 science fiction sports film Real Steel, which was produced with a budget of $110 million. The movie went on to generate a global revenue of $300 million.

It’s unclear which studio Reynolds plans to collaborate with for this upcoming film, as his previous projects have been distributed by various studios. For instance, Disney handled Deadpool and Wolverine, while 2024’s IF was produced by Paramount, and the 2022 release Spirited premiered on Apple TV+.

Apart from the unnamed film, Ryan Reynolds also has multiple upcoming productions. These include “Animal Friends” directed by Peter Atencio, as well as “Mayday,” co-directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley. Additionally, there’s a movie version of the Dragon’s Lair video game series in development.

In the upcoming movie “Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story,” Jackman will be making an appearance, directed by Kyle Balda. Furthermore, he’s rumored to take on the lead role in “The Death of Robin Hood,” directed by Michael Sarnoski.
