In episode 7, we get our first glimpse of the gangster. During a flashback sequence, Francis requests that Oz’s sibling, Jack, pass a book to Rex. Later on, Jack, Benny, and a young version of Oz observe as Rex and his associates brutally assault a man. The situation takes a turn when Oz shouts out his name, but instead of acknowledging him, Rex engages with Jack.
