As a seasoned gamer and Lego enthusiast with over two decades of building, breaking, and rebuilding under my belt, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about three new Lego movies in the works at Universal Pictures!
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that three fresh Lego movies are brewing over at Universal Pictures! Guess who’ll be helming one? None other than the amazing Patty Jenkins, who brought us the epic Wonder Woman film. Can’t wait to see what she has in store for us!
The company Lego has teamed up with Universal Pictures for the production of three original, as-yet unnamed live-action movies. These films will be overseen by Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christians in their roles as producers.
Per Deadline, these projects will be helmed by Jenkins, Jake Kasdan, and Joe Cornish.
What do we know about the three new Lego movies?
The project that Kasdan (famous for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017 and the forthcoming Red One) is currently working on stems from a script penned by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul, developed from an original concept and earlier draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows. Kasdan will co-produce the movie with Melvin Mar.
Meanwhile, Jenkins’ current project is rooted in a script she co-wrote with Geoff Johns. Apart from the 2017 release of Wonder Woman, Jenkins is famously recognized for directing its sequel, Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), and the 2003 film Monster. For her upcoming Lego project, she’ll be working through her production company, Wicious Pictures.
As a gamer, I’ve got some exciting news to share! Joe Cornish, the guy behind 2011’s Attack the Block and 2019’s The Kid Who Would Be King, is currently polishing up a fresh draft of his upcoming movie’s script. Previously, the foundation for this script was laid by Anna Campbell from a treatment by Simon Rich. Can’t wait to see what he’s cooking up next!
At present, specifics about the storylines for all three movies are being kept confidential. As of now, neither the release dates nor the cast members have been disclosed.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller created the first “Lego” movie back in 2014. Since then, multiple spin-offs, sequels have followed such as “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”, “The Lego Batman Movie”, and “The Lego Ninjago Movie”. More recently, Universal’s Focus Feature brought us “Piece by Piece”, a biographical drama about Pharrell Williams using Lego animation.
