Throwback to when Vijay Deverakonda said 'That's the punishment I gave myself' after Liger flopped

As a dedicated follower of Vijay Deverakonda‘s career, I must say that the actor’s resilience and professional integrity have always been impressive, but his response to the failure of Liger truly stands out. His decision to refrain from discussing box-office results for his next few films is a testament to his growth as an artist and his commitment to his craft.

2022 marked the entry of renowned actor Vijay Deverakonda into Bollywood with the movie “Liger”. Led by director Puri Jagannadh, this production also stars Ananya Panday as the main female character. Interestingly, “Liger” was filmed concurrently in both Hindi and Telugu languages. Although there was a lot of excitement surrounding its premiere on social media, its earnings at the box office fell far short of expectations. In an old interview, Vijay Deverakonda opened up about the underperformance of “Liger” and shared his self-punishing response to it.

According to a report on ETV Bharat, Vijay Deverakonda shared his insights following the release of Liger, stating that he hasn’t changed in his approach. He mentioned that while before and after the release, he remains the same, the only alteration is his decision to avoid discussing the outcomes of his upcoming films for the next few movies. This self-imposed silence, he added, serves as a form of self-punishment.

During the promotion of his movie “Family Star,” co-starring Mrunal Thakur in Hyderabad, actor Vijay Deverakonda shared that he had set a personal limitation for himself, which he referred to as a form of self-punishment. This action, however, underscored his dedication to personal development and professional ethics.

Before the premiere of Liger, Vijay had confidently forecasted its success as his inaugural collaboration with Puri Jagannadh. The actor known for Geetha Govindam stated, “I’ll only start tallying box office earnings once we reach Rs 200 crores.” Yet, despite being his first pan-Indian film, Liger faced criticism from both critics and viewers.

Currently, on the professional side, Vijay Deverakonda recently made an appearance in a special role as Lord Arjuna alongside Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Amitabh Bachchan in the movie titled Kalii 2898 AD. In the near future, this actor is preparing for two highly anticipated films, provisionally named VD12 and VD 14. The makers of the upcoming project have unveiled a first glimpse of Deverakonda from the film.

Actor Vijay Deverakonda will team up with director Gowtam Tinnanuri for the movie “VD 12,” set to hit theaters on March 28, 2025. Additionally, he is also working with Ravi Kiran Kola on another high-octane entertainer. The actor made announcements about both movies on his birthday this year.
