As a dedicated gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must admit, the financial landscape of Ubisoft this year has been quite the rollercoaster. While it’s disheartening to see some of their flagship franchises underperform, it’s downright astonishing to witness the unyielding success of Rainbow Six Siege.
For the fiscal years 2024-2025, Ubisoft’s overall financial situation appears less than favorable. However, there’s one title that buckles this trend and continues to generate substantial revenue for the company.
Better numbers than the entire Far Cry franchise
2021 has seen Rainbow Six Siege perform exceptionally well. The Year 9 Season 3 Battle Pass reached the second-highest conversion rate in history, and the game has also shown significant success relative to other Ubisoft franchises. In essence, the individual success of Rainbow Six Siege comes close to matching the combined success of the Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Over the past decade, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has generated around €4bn, Rainbow Six Siege has generated over €3.5 billion (bn) and Far Cry has topped around €2bn.
Yet, even the lesser-known franchises thrived, and with titles like The Division, Ghost Recon, and Just Dance surpassing €1 billion in sales, Ubisoft now boasts six brands that have amassed such significant consumer spending.
Despite some positive aspects, it appears that 20XX has not been a successful year for Ubisoft due to the underperformance of games like Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown and Star Wars: Outlaws. As a result, Ubisoft opted to push back the release date of Assassin’s Creed Shadows until the following year.
It seems evident that Ubisoft understands the necessity for adjustments, but the specifics of these modifications remain unclear at this time. A clearer picture of their intentions may emerge once the upcoming Assassin’s Creed is revealed next year.
