As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for inspiring stories, I must say that Major Mukund Varadarajan’s life is a testament to courage, sacrifice, and love. Born into a family of military veterans, he followed his heart and chose to serve his nation, rising through the ranks despite initial pursuits in journalism. His story is one that resonates deeply with me, having grown up with similar influences and values instilled by my own parents.
The much-anticipated film “Amaran,” featuring Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi, is ready for its grand premiere on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, October 31st. This biographical action war movie is inspired by the life story of Major Mukund Varadarajan, showcasing his brave deeds and selfless dedication as a soldier in India. Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, this film serves as a tribute to his heroic achievements and unwavering spirit.
Meet Major Mukund Varadarajan
In Tamil Nadu, on April 12, 1983, Major Mukund was born to parents Geetha and R Varadarajan. He grew up with two sisters named Swetha and Nithya. From an early age, Mukund nurtured a strong desire to serve in the military, as his grandfather and two uncles had done so in the Indian Army. Despite this ambition, he pursued a diploma course in journalism after finishing his college education.
Rather than opting for another profession, he decided to enroll in the Officers Training Academy, where he honed his skills and eventually rose through the ranks to become a Lieutenant. Soon afterward, he received a promotion to the rank of Army Captain.
He took part in a United Nations peacekeeping operation in Lebanon, where he was later promoted to Major in 2012. Subsequently, he joined the 44th Battalion of the Rashtriya Rifles, a counter-terrorism unit, and found himself stationed in Jammu and Kashmir during heightened India-Pakistan conflicts.
Tragically, Major Mukund lost his life during a confrontation against terrorists in Shopian at the tender age of 31. Remarkably, he had already claimed several enemy lives before sustaining fatal injuries. Posthumously, this brave soldier was awarded the Ashoka Chakra for his exceptional courage and valor.
Major Mukund and Indhu Rebecca Varghese’s love story
In their college years, Indhu Rebecca Varghese and Major Mukund crossed paths. It was during this period that Mukund attended Madras Christian College. Previously, Indhu shared with Just For Women that she had sensed Mukund was more than just a friend to her.
Initially, her parents harbored doubts about her romance since he served in the armed forces. In fact, they strongly disapproved of their daughter marrying a military man, considering it too perilous.
In the interview, Indhu expressed that while he might not have been naturally romantic, she was thankful for the sincerity, which made loving him much easier.
She often found herself reminiscing about her friends’ frequent frustration due to her regular absences from their Sunday outings. However, what mattered most to her was spending Sundays with him and patiently awaiting in the lobby of the Officer’s Training Academy.
Thankfully, Mukund and Indhu’s families consented to their union, leading to their marriage. Subsequently, they were blessed with a child whom they named Arsheya.
